  1. They put me in a short bus English class in grade school.

Just to one look at me and decide because of my cleft lip I must have problems.

    Nope…just a Hillbilly.

I can speak like a newscaster if I want to. One of the few people on planet earth let alone rural Texas where Gaeilge is most often spoken at home and English is a second language.

Just learned to drop even the Irish accent to fit in with the other kids and now as an old man Texan is normal.

I actually struggle to remember Gaeilge and it's has it's own sorta problems as it's a heavily regional accented version and a none to posh one.

So kinda fluent in Hillbilly in more than one language.

But yeah… If you have a child with a cleft lip don't worry to much. They will be fine with only some stronger than typical self conscious puberty issues with appearance.

But as an adult it's not an issue unless I'm really tired. I do have a tendency to mumble when really tired.

It takes a lot more work and facial muscle strength to pull agianst scar tissue, contort, and manipulate my face to properly pronounce words.

Sometimes have to relearn how to do that agian as I age with certain random words I had no issue with for years.

But it's not a big deal.

    I'm a Texan.

But if I need to I can do a "Dan Rather" if it helps to be understood.
