iso and kosher salt works slick as f–k!! if you start having problems with hard water stains.. use C L R (calcium lime rust remover) just remember to use gloves.

Undertake all kinds of glass smoke processing production.
After i clean my glass I put some olive oil in there with the water. The oil catches what used to collect everywhere inside the bong. The oil turns dark as it filters with the water. To clean just empty the glass piece of the dirty water and oil put in some dish soap add warm water shake and let the soap breakdown the olive oil. Rinse well, refill with cold water and oil and use again. Not a problem at all. No alcohol residue to ever worry about. And you don't need salt.Try it you'll like it.

A good tip I recommend is putting your glass (smaller glasses like pipes, not bongs) in a ziplock baggy and then just add the salt and rubbing alcohol in and shake the baggy.
The oxyclean impression had me rollin 😂😂
What I do is similar to what you do but I put it in a plastic bag or a storage bowl and let my piece just sit there for hours! My pieces are usually gunked up to the point where it is unsmokable out of and this method makes at good as new. I do shake the bag/bowl up every so often to get the contents moving inside too.
