back in the day there were all kinds of wooden piped AND smoking "stones". Glass can break and metal gets hot. I think wood is superior.

That "joint filter/cone" is called a "tuquero" here in argentina (literally, a "roacher") because that's about the only thing we use it for, smoking tucas (again, roaches)
