How do you know when your material is spent?

Nice video, but for efficient use of herbs it's recommended to only use enough to cover the bottom screen in the herb chamber. You don't need to add the liquid pad in this case. Allow the air to move freely in the chamber as this will maximise the surface area of the herb being heated and it will do so more evenly.
