  1. I don't know how true this is that a dog has the vocabulary of a two year old . I don't believe it is good to suppress a dog who is voicing itself by barking., be it from frustration or from informing us that someone that doesn't live here is at the door or near the house . I'm happy my dog let's me know that she knows who belongs in or near our house and who doesn't. It's a form of protecting territory.

  2. I tried this. I've tried everything. Nothing works. She actually would go against the door jamb push the sprayer to the side come to me, bark and it would spray me. I bought the zapper collar and she figured out how loud she could bark without it hurting her. I've given up. She won't bark when my bf is around but with me, she doesn't listen are all. She's a miniature corgi mini poodle mix.

  3. Redirection did help my dog. When he was a puppy he barked at everything but I would call him to myself and he still does that now, when he sits outside he knows if he barks he comes in for a while. When we take him for a walk he gets a lot of barks in though.

  4. Tula was doing her job barking when someone is at the door. Look at her behavior when you switched the collar on. She kept licking = most uncomfortable position for her. Citronella is unbearable to dogs, as the smell remains on the fur, I personally will not use it. It's most unfair to the dog, a punishment. In my dog's case, i'll make it worse, more stressed so I've come to terms with the barking of my rescue dog who "imitates the wolf" when I go away (problem in a flat with neighbours). He suffers from separation anxiety and this is the only time he yells. I've tried everything they say including ignoring him. But they are standard rules and each dog has his own personality. He is too old to change anyway. It maybe the reason why is was abandoned in the street and ended in a shelter.

  5. This looks like a really safe and "benign" way to stop dog barking. Something else to try, is when my dogs bark, I thank them for protecting their territory and give them lots of hugs and affection, and that seems to stop them, once they know I have received their warnings – if I am home, that is. However, here's a concern about stopping our dogs from barking. We have gotten so far from Nature… Just as for dogs who aren't allowed to express themselves by barking or howling, the same goes for people who don't sing or yell or better yet, yodel. It can lead to an inactive *Vagus Nerve*, which can lead to stomach disorders (such as Megaesophagus) , and upon further studies, can lead to anxiety and other mental and physiological issues. In other words when your dog barks and howls – join them for better health for body, mind, and spirit for both of you!! AAAAaaaaawooooooooooooooooo!!! It's amazing how therapeutic it is to do what the indigenous peoples do by instinct and tradition in keeping their Vagus Nerve healthy and stimulated. Sing, dance, hum, and do that Rain Dance – and by all means do this with Rover! Hyyaaa-aaaayyyaaa-hyyyaaa! Lift your mood and your spirits, hoooooowl! Dr Jones, you and Little Tula are a hoot! Love you madly!

  6. Why does it work? Because its NOT BENIGN, OTHERWISE IT WOULDNT WORK. Dogs bark, because they are dogs. Kikopup put out a whole tutorial on how how to stop dogs from barking. Its more work, but training by pressing buttons will have sideeffects sooner or later.

  7. We used the citronella with our now-deceased dog years ago. It worked, but Tucker thought the spray was coming the floor, and he would start avoiding the spots where he got sprayed. Soon, poor Tucker looked like a soldier navigating a mine field!

  8. Humane dog trainers are screaming that you're endorsing this right now! Not causing physical harm doesn't make it humane as it is what we would call a adversive technique. A version of positive punishment, it's something that most modern behaviourists wouldn't recommend as it is causing your dog distress to get them to stop barking. Citronella is a extremely strong smell for dogs and you're spraying them in the face with it, causing the same mental reaction as a shock collar. This can lead to stress, anxiety and learned helplessness. You've just perpetuated lazy and harmful dog training in this video. You should be telling people to get a positive modern science based trainer if they have been unable to stop their dogs barking themselves.
We are trying to move forward in to training dogs positively with science based training in the animal behaviour world, and endorsments like this just drag us backwards.

  9. My dog wore one 3 times now when she barks I just show it to her and she stops . I’d love to put one on each of my neighbours dogs they bark all the time and they live outside. So annoying

  10. problem is you are promoting this and some idiot is going to run out and buy it, strap it onto his dogs neck and leave it on for 8 or more hours, you don't know how long people are going to leave it on. After so many hours the dog will be effected and will be traumatized, stressed.. even develop an allergic reaction. I cant stand behind any of these collars, there're all demeaning and mentally and physically painful to canines, So wrong.

  11. Well I tell you I'm really hoping for the best. I don't have problems with my dog barking at the door, or barking in the backyard he barks when he becomes excited. At times of play which are okay because he's playing but the very worst habit that Luke has is whenever I try to speak to someone Luke barks. This comes from my living a lifestyle of distancing before it became necessary. So Luke is simply not used to having other people around. If I try to talk to the neighbours across the fence he will bark continuously. If I hire a repairman to come into the house he barks until they leave. Again if someone comes to the door I literally just send them away. I was surprised because the Barking didn't start to get really bad until he was about four. Anyway this looks like the most hopeful possibility I've seen so far. The only problem I can see happening is a dog's refusal to wear it fighting to get that block off of the collar. Well wish me luck everyone. I will be in touch with PetSmart in the morning and hopefully they have them in stock I am curious though how much they cost. Pet devices can be extremely expensive. It's rather ironic I chose a lifestyle of isolation and it appears my fur buddy is making sure it stays that way. LOL everyone please be safe and stay well. Actually I'm wondering because the problem occurs only when I'm around if I might be able to purchase a citronella spray and simply spray him when he barks. Honestly I don't see any need for the collar now that I think about it. The Barking always happens when I'm right there. When I leave the house he barks until the sound of my car is gone and when I get home he doesn't start working until he hears me at the door . H m m m.

  12. That was AWESOME! We have a terrible barking problem, but I don't like shock collars. This one looks to be worth a try. Thanks for demonstrating how easy it is to set up.

  13. Poor Tula, always the guinea pig and she knows it because as dad was filling the device she began getting nervous. I personally would never consider this or anything spraying my poor dogs with any chemical, water maybe, but no chemicals or even essential oils.

  14. I used this for a while but it was too big for my dog. It did work but I would use in a dog over twenty pounds. The small one I have now progresses from beeps to vibration. Works great on my dog some dogs ignore it though. I use it for travel.

  15. I had one of those with citronella (not same brand) a while back with my Corgi, but he ended up reclusive and hiding after a while of wearing it, he hated the spray and it made him very insecure. I wonder if you can post an update after say 1 month with Tula's collar. I now have Doxies, but I keep them in a separate room (large master bedroom) when I leave, that solved the barking problem since there's no trigger being away from the front door. But, when travelling this could be handy for hotels though I worry it will have the same effect as my Corgi, that was heart breaking and discontinued it after I saw how scared of everything he was.
