  1. Dr. Please address the various parasites Dog's and Cat's can have which could be causing itching-scratching like crazy. In 60 yrs I'd never heard of Dog chewing lice. Until 2 months after my dogs were groomed and caught them there. My dogs never come in contact with other dogs. I had just had a total shoulder replacement surgery on my didn't arm with mostly zero help. But my daughter did come bathe them for me that day 2 months to bathe n use conditioner because I thought it was dry skin causing their scratchingafter that grooming. She was blow drying my blonde colored dog and thought she seen thing's crawling so she grabbed my nit comb I use to comb the gunk away from their eyes. She found what looked exactly like human head lice the same color as the dog. It was obvious they'd grown in that 2 months. Daughter had taken her 4 dogs to the same groomer 2wks after mine. She said I told you I recently had to treat my dog's for fleas. But they looked like these on your 2 dog's. I had cataract surgery so I never could see them on my dog's. Her dog's never come in contact with mine or any others either so we're positive they all got them from groomers. Daughter hadn't been to my home since before my surgery. My surgery was within 2wks after I got them groomed. I remembered groomer help a lady who obviously had deep pockets before me n got her little white dog gave it to her even though I arrived before her. She shown her on a paper towel what was those lice. I didn't have reader glasses yet to see up close well after cataract surgery made me see far away better. All I could make out was black dots on paper towel n said you mean fleas? The way you'll see black spots with fleas. She said no they are "just" lice. Just? She just gave the lady a whole gallon of medicated shampoo to take home n use. Said she treated her while grooming n told both of us we didn't need to worry about our dog's having them at all. My Vet told me they are Dog Chewing Lice n charged me $72. for meds to get rid of them n I had to cover my floors n where they layed with diatomaceous earth. Would be great if you would do an informative video of all kinds of dog and cat parasites with pictures. Thank you

  2. I learned recently that corn starch is good for itching. This summer we here in Florida had an outbreak (Godzilla overload)of fleas. My baby is allergic to fleas and I don’t use chemicals, so I was using everything I could think of to help get them off and combing several times a day. When we finally got the fleas under control she was left with sores on her back in spite of all the care. I remembered from my childhood days that my mother swore by corn starch for diaper rash and like a little light bulb switching on I ran for the cupboard. I coated her well and it worked beautifully. Overnight the redness was gone, no itching and within a few short days she was all better and happy.

  3. CORRECT DOSE FREQUENCY: to be given ONCE a day (every 24 hours).

It is excessive to use it twice per day (every 12 hours). Your google search would say every 12-24 hours but this is not correct if you’re basing it on proper labeled dosages. Minimal effective dose is best.

Andrew, it’s important to note how many hours apart so pet parents don’t decide “twice a day” means once at breakfast and once at lunch! These antihistamines may be over the counter but effects of overdose include: seizures, agitation, anxiety, vomiting and diarrhea to name a few.

Also make sure you DON’T get a products with “daytime” label. They have ephedrine and other “uppers” that are not appropriate for pets.

As always, just providing context where it isn’t given. Natural pet care is wonderful, but please be responsible

  4. Dude, you are so timely! My catahoula bulldog is scratching herself relentlessly. I've tried everything to help her, hoping this works. Headed to the pharmacy even as we speak. Thank you Veterinary Secrets!

  6. 😭 Im putting this here because it's the most recent post, and I'm hoping for information and help with diet. My 9 year old female Australian Shepherd mix just got diagnosed with MAST CELL Tumor. Are family vet suggested removal of tumors asap when we fine them and a steroid and / or chemotherapy for every new tumor. I did watch the short video this vet has on MCT, but it's not enough information. Im open to all thoughts and ideas and recommendations. ❤

  7. So how about cats? Mine has begun scratching at night, we added a flea med (though we don't see fleas), and diatomaceous earth. Her tail was nearly naked. would Zyrtec be appropriate for her? She's small, I'd have to weigh her, but 8 or 10 pounds…
