1. This seems to happen in all sorts of animal breeding. I see it with ball pythons for example. As soon as you get a new mutation people try to get the name out and make money. Sometimes the breeding techniques include inbreeding to express recessive genes and make them dominant. The inbreeding will also express genetic diseases and retardation. Though soon with synthetic genomic tools like crispr you may be able to breed with all the beneficial genes and no disease.

5. Wait, isnt that how all breeders get their fair share of profit when they introduce a new strain? At least thats how it works with any other crop: if you breed an entirely new strain and want to make profit off of it, you need to get it approved by your local authorities (like the FDA). If Cannabis will be totally legal again, this is just how its done, right?

   "but you can get it from designated shops"
   "but laws are trying to close those shops down"

   anyways .

   this is INSANELY stupid.

   they are giving "patents" (not official patents i know, but pretty nuch saying "your the owner of this strain sue people who steal it"

   thats retarded. think about it.

   these dispenceries will become big business "fuck what the public thinks i want more money" type of businesses.

   if you give them the power to LITTERALY own strains of weed then everyone who "copies" them by taking seeds and growing their own will be FUCKED.

   thats like saying "i have a patent on this tree and any seeds that fall from it"

   even more stupid is all the people claiming to "own" these strains got their SEEDS and knowledge from PREVIOUS growers.

   so after this youd have to have permission from big companies to grow your own pot.

9. I was thinking about this. People are going to want recognition for their strains. And with full legalization and the further legitimization of the industry, they're probably going to want all the monetary benefits that they can get. I just hope it doesn't get to Monsanto level bullshit. But at least we'll be able to grow our own plants.

10. And don't forget the USA government has been growing different strains since the 1970's, RIGHT HERE IN THE USA! They've already got a patent on some CBC's, look in the Library of Congress applications that have been GRANTED!, under Patents.

12. You cannot patent a plant, you can however restrict sales of a "Cultivar" or cultivated variety (Landrace strains for example).

15. Another money making scheme of the back of cannabis growers who in return could register a strain that someone else took years if not decades to prefect. With schemes like this it would only encourage lawsuits and more money for big corps…
