  1. It is mid July-2018 when I'm writing this comment about our dog. He is a 5-7? year old lab/golden mix, around100lbs. We adopted him 1 year ago and he came with lots of issues, one of which was severe separation anxiety. I am home most of the time so we tackled that one right away and now a year later, he is a much calmer dog, even when we have to leave the house for any length of time. However, last week my husband went out of town for 6 days and Romeo reverted back to his anxious self and instead of constant whining and barking like did in the beginning, he started hurting himself by rubbing his right ear raw to the point of injuring it with his dew claw. This happened in the middle of the night when I was asleep so I discovered it hours later in the morning. My husband is back home now but Romeo is so fearful of him leaving again for any reason that the damaging behavior has become a round the clock problem. I think he has OCD. I have put rubber dog boots on his front and back right paws to keep him from tearing his ear open again, especially during the night. I'm going out tomorrow to buy an e-collar for him to wear until it heals. What can I do to lessen his anxiety to hopefully prevent this behavior in the future? Thank you Dr. for any info you can give me. 🙂

  2. It’s winter here in Australia and it sucks my little girl always gets tummy problem at the beginning of winter. Added to this she also gets the winter blues like me. Thanks dr Jones for acknowledging that they too get depressed 🐶🐶🐶

  3. I rescued a Chihuahua nearly a month ago who has been abused. I think he may have ptsd, or some version of it. He's between 1 and 2 yrs old and it was 8 days before he wagged his tail, 10 days before he started grooming himself, and 3 1/2 weeks before he played for the first time for about 4 minutes. He's too afraid to go for walks, I tried. I just hold him as much as he wants and he sleeps with me or in his bed next to me. He doesn't play with my other two dogs yet either but they do seem to comfort him and they don't have disagreements with him. He's slowly coming around but certain things trigger him. Do you have any suggestions for how I can help him just be a dog ? It's so sad to see him suddenly start shaking and cowering because I picked up a broom. I love your channel and videos, you've been very helpful and have even helped me save money, and I really appreciate it. Thank you! 💙💙💙

  4. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts regarding mental health. I think it helps everything/everyone if we greet one another with thoughtful actions/attention (helps shed the blues). I can see that all of my animals needs are much like my own. Thanks Dr. Jones

  5. I live in Vancouver and it's not unusual here for the rain to start in October and rain all the way through until the end of April. I'm not just talking about one or two days a week I'm talking about solid rain. So walking more often than not isn't an option. I have a very active American lab so I've had to become creative. Fortunately Luke absolutely loves to play with toys he prefers a new toy over a treat. That doesn't happen very often with a lab LOL. try to make sure I fit in at least three times during the day where he gets my total focus and we just play toys. I send him to his toy box and he'll go and select the toy he wants to play with. The most important thing is that during that play time they get your complete attention. If you stop to answer the phone and come back or do what you're in the middle of play time it doesn't have the same effect he needs to know that I'm completely focused on him for that time. Another thing I do is play hide and seek and I'll hide little pieces of cheese or little pieces of treat throughout the house and sometimes that can keep him occupied for a good hour. This is also very helpful to keep his mind stimulated. Above all of those things I have found the number one most effective thing for helping Luke get through the miserable seasons of Vancouver are regular daily massages Because he's not able to get the physical exercise that he needs his body becomes tense. I don't know if you've ever watched your dog and they get really excited and they almost start to vibrate because they're so excited and they so want to go run . I found that massaging him two or three times from the top of his head to the end of his tail completely solved this problem. It felt to me that he was going through anxiety and stress and the massage literally stopped it. I work all his muscles , legs just every part of them so by the time I'm finished he's like a wet noodle he's so relaxed now that he's getting older he'll come to me sit down and turn his back to me and he's telling me that he wants me to massage his back because he knows that's how the massage will start. That has got us through some very difficult autumn winter and many spring days. Thank goodness I think we're almost over the hump it looks like we've got a week of sun coming. But the play and the massages don't discontinue when we move in to the better weather because they've become such a strong part of his mental health. So that's Luke and my story if you happened to make it all the way through LOL thank you . I cannot suggest anything more effective then regular daily massage It feels as good for them as it does for us. And the bonding affect is without parallel. Anyway furbaby parents thank God we survived another winter.

  6. My chow chow loves the snow, enjoys laying in the yard watching the birds, dislikes my windchimes, rabbits in her yard and one certain person that comes over occasionally his presence causes her to escape from the yard and wander the streets the day after he visits.

  7. You made my dogs smile!!! Heads down, tails up, waggin' in the air. My dogs and I are walking, without a single care! We had a dust storm yesterday that kept us in the house all day (they have a dog door so that they can come n go as they please), then more winds today, but we got out, and I for one, am glad we braved the storm.

  8. +veterinary secrets Hey Dr. Jones! The "webinar" was brilliant – thanks very much for that. I'll most def be signing up for the "inner circle" as well. My Black, (big but slender) Standard Poodle, Pharaoh will be 14-years-old on the 25th. He almost died 3 years ago, which led me to a holistic vet. I put him on CBD, a few other herbs, a raw diet, and incorporated much more exercise into his routine. Now he's still kicking butt! Im SO glad that i found that awesome vet, as well as people like yourself. Keep up the good work! Cheers Mate.

  9. my dog has a mental issues because when its bed time he dont wanna go sleeping he always going cucu and running like a psycho 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  10. Really love these videos. I like how you're starting to incorporate you in your natural habitat LOL good to see videos of you more relaxed and a mixture of Veterinary advice and just watching you

  11. Least y can walk your dog. Mine gets "kill the rabbit" in her head and she goes red…and drags me…or downs me…as an elderly owrson its really dangerous…and Yes we have tried training.

  12. I know ive had enough winter I also spend alot of quality time with my two yellow labs and that helps alot…. But we are all looking firward to the fishing season. Great vid thanks.

  13. Thank you for this perfectly timed video! I'm fighting to get out of the "winter blues" and I think that my 2 dogs are also a bit down as well. My almost 13 year old and almost 10 year old Cavaliers haven't been getting the exercise they need, and of course, neither am I. Since they are both Seniors, with MVD that's being controlled pretty well, should I be concerned about exerting them too much? I have to leash walk them, since I live in an apartment. I feel like your video this was meant for me to watch today! Happy Spring!

  14. The American veterinary association and big pharma use dogs and cats in their flea and drug experiments and these poor animals are all being kept in steel barren cages, confined to a cage, for their entire lives! This is perfectly legal. So basically your drugs are being tested on mentally deranged, depressed, and insane, companion animals who are being abused by the vet industry. Why don't veterinarians stand up against this treatment and devaluation of our companions. They do nothing. Even The vet I go to which is holistic doesn't care. Any data obtained by sticking an animal in a cage, on depressed and imprisoned animals, is not accurate data.
Even pet food manufacturers house thousand of animals cats, dogs, in cages, while force feeding them and then killing them in order to dissect their little bodies and organs. That's why you see claims on the IAMS and Eukanuba bags that state " increases muscle mass , heart, ect
The industry is murdering millions of dogs and cats by the year and nothing is being done about it.
I only buy food that does not do any companion animal experiments, and products as well.
Products like Wondercide which is all natural
