  1. I know this is off topic. I have a question. My new dog (SHELTIE) that I have had almost a year now is almost 4 years old. She has been shaking her head. first vet said allergies but never stopped so I switched her food over 2 months ago but she still seem to shake her head to do with her ears. Vet checked her ears with a swab but was clear.

  2. My dog is very well socialized and trained on command. She has perfect recall off leash. Despite this, I keep her leashed when in public places and hiking. She has been attacked by a Shepherd at the dog park (that was aggressive with all dogs), then by 2 rotties while hiking when the owner couldn't control them, and a pit mix off leash more recently. I've had to drop her leash to give her a chance to run away from them. It's never fair to have your dog on a leash while loose dogs have free reign to attack. Thankfully she is very fast and can get away. All three owners were arrogant jerks who did not like me telling them their dogs should never have been off leash especially being aggressive. The lady with the Rottweilers fought with me over that statement and followed me 14 mile back to my car, harassing me. I had to call the police on her. The guy who owned the pit mix didn't apologize for the attack. Instead he cursed me out, grabbed his dog and ran away before I could call police. My dog doesn't enjoy meeting other dogs anymore, and I don't blame her.

  3. Hello doctor, please what do you think about dog chewing on antlers? From Daniel deer? Our veterinary said to not use it, that it doesn’t leave the body and stays in the intestines. Is that true? I would be rather concerned about its hardness and weather the dog cannot hurt his teeth on it, as it seems hard as rock? Please advise what do you think? Thank you in advance for your answer.

  4. Personally I think dog parks where many dogs are off leash are a mistake waiting to happen. I have never and will never take my dogs to a dog park. In that sense it's my responsibility to keep my pet safe. Taking them somewhere where all it takes is one dog with an attitude is not worth the risk.

  5. So many people go to dog parks that 0 clue what to actually do. I made a great dog park safety video you should check it out. I will be making a new one some time in the future. There are a few things I missed like making sure your dog shots are up to date. I welcome any input.

  6. Have a certified dog that's big but so cial when around home area he is off leash but I always put him on a leash if I go anywhere other dog may be. For his safety and others and their dogs
Comman since people. Your dog protects you so protect him.

  7. It's a real problem. I walk my two small dogs carrying a pointed stick. I have had unleashed dogs follow us, appear out of nowhere, and dash toward us from a yard. I watch all around us carefully and am prepared to do whatever I have to do to the offending dogs to protect mine. My Sheltie was attacked by an unleashed Jindo on a trail when she was 4-5 months old. The owner of course denied his dog would do anything like that, but animal control told me the dog had priors, and subsequent to that incident that dog attacked an older Golden Retriever on that same trail. A friend's Shepherd attacked both my dogs, one time just out of the blue. I quit taking my dogs to his house.

Aggressive dogs with clueless owners in denial are a real problem.

  8. Here is another "pet peeve" of mine. My experience has been that my pets have been abused and tortured in my own home behind my back .so i never leave them alone not ever. There are really creepy people who like to torture animals. You can only know what is happening to your pet if you are watching them. You can not expect them to fend for themselves and some "people" like to see abuse.
Just saying. Dog parks NO DONT GO THERE!

  9. If the dog has had other problems and animal care and control knows this. I feel that there should offer education classes for (owners and family members) to take to educate and prevent another issue. I understand some people think they know everything and feel that they shouldn't have to be educated on the issues. I feel in order for them to get there pet back they won't get dog until they complete the educate part. I'm also aware that sometimes things happen and we can't prevent something from happening all the time. Educate and training the family members before giving dog back after first incident. If family love and value there animals and don't want to set them up for failure or have them put down because of it; or anyone else or there family having to go through something like that. I understand we can't control the humans to do what they to do or not do.

  10. Please leash your dog, he or she is so sweet , Yes to you but my greyhound only wants to go for his walk. He wanted to just enjoy this sunny day. So this off leash dog is fast in his face. We didn’t even see him at first, my guy didn’t want that so he growled. I told them to get their dog and I was told your dog isn’t friendly. What🤬, as people we sometimes don’t want to talk to anyone just want to enjoy a sunny day and walk. My dog wanted the same. Lol My guy is older and the most chilled guy ever. So please stop and think do you always want to talk to people on your walks or in joying your music when walking on a sunny day? 🤫 🙄

  11. I am looking for the supplements that is sold here. I am sorry for the off load request. Not that I don't think this is so important topic. Everyone usually will state my thought on this matter. People should know better.

  12. It drives me nuts how people just let there dog off leash. There's been a few times a off leash dog has run across the street and at my dog and me and they charge at us it freaks me out because it's always the big hundred pound dogs and you don't know what they are going to do.
I just don't understand people with the thought there dog doesn't need a leash one time a dog off leash crossed the highway to get to us it wasn't a big dog or anything a medium at best it didn't do anything but i was more concerned for that dogs safety because it took its sweet time crossing over and the owner was no where in sight and I wasn't going to put my dogs safety at risk to save the othere dog. Thankfully cars actually stopped for it.
There is just so many reasons why it's just a good idea to use a leash. Despite what those people think no dog is perfect no matter how obedient they think there dog is things can happen in a instant.

  13. It’s been harder for me to get my medium sized lab/pit bull.. etc mix socialized while on leash IMO because he acts different when on leash then when not. In my experience, while off leash at the beach and running and swimming, he’ll meet and be interested in other dogs and end up playing totally fine after a sniffing of each other. While on leash he seems not as free to sniff and use his body language and may even tend to be somewhat aggressive…maybe protective since we’re connected … any suggestions for while on leash socializing tips? 💝

  14. We need stricter rules and rougher punishment. Some people don't learn there lesson. There are owners who don't take responsibility, dump their dog at a shelter, and then are allowed to just get another dog where they most likely will have the same issues. The problem is the owners, no the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs are the ones that end up paying the price
And we need vets to actually label breeds.

  15. My German shepherd attacked a little dog once. She never had done that before. The lady started screaming and jerking her dog that's when my dog attacked. The lady was terrified and kept screaming. I paid the vet bills. She never attacked another dog. She was very well trained and obedient except for that one time she was perfect. You can not always know what a dog will do.

  16. Omg poor dog dogs shouldn’t be off leash there is a dog on our route we take for a walk came running towards my dog and I pulled my dog to me and I yelled at the dog and he finally backed off

  17. My chocolate lab was well socialized. I never had a problem until I moved to a dog friendly town in Florida. She was attacked 2X in the first month and once after that. I have had dogs chase us when she was running beside my bike leashed of course and I have been bitten once in the leg from all loose dogs.

  18. I don't believe In off leash areas dog parks Their animals never know what they're going to do You'll hear owners say my dog never bit anyone my dog's not aggressive Don't put your animals in harm's way it doesn't end well

  19. I have witnessed several aggressive dog attacks in my local park. Just last week, there was a Rottweiler off leash. I stayed close to my dogs to observe. The Rottweiler sniffed as did my dogs without incident. However, when I threw my dog's ball and the Rottweiler went after the ball, caught it and refused to give it back. The owner was extremely nonchalant about it as his dog would not listen at all to any command he gave him "drop it or come here." I then said "your dog should not be off leash because he doesn't listen to you." The owner was clearly offended and said "do you want me to buy you another ball?" I said "that's not the point, your dog doesn't listen to you." We had exchange more heated words including profanity. At this point the owner said "now you're not getting your ball, as he continued to walk away while calling his dog to come to him." His Rottweiler ignored him. I was able to grab the Rottweiler by his spiked choker collar and grab the ball out of his mouth. Within one minute, the Rottweiler saw a small 8 pound dog, sniffed it and proceeded to grab it using his teeth. It was a good thing the owner of the small dog was quick to lift up her dog and dangle it over a fence, otherwise her dog would have been seriously injured. I immediately yelled "you see, you see how your dog shouldn't be off leash." The problem with Small Claims court is how do you expect to get that person's information? They will NOT wait around for the police. The best you can do is take a picture or video. Unfortunately, I have had these confrontations often. My two dogs are very well trained and extremely well behaved. Hence why they can be off leash. They weigh 19 and 25 pounds. The 25 pound dog is known as the "Mayor" of my local park because he's so affectionate and everyone knows my dogs. The 19 pound dog is known for barking at me when he wants me to throw his ball. He loves chasing his ball, squirrels and birds. People just don't take the time to train their dogs. It's annoying and can be dangerous.

  20. We fly a drone around our fenced in back yard in order to get our dog exercise because there isnt any safe place around me. The town I live in has way too many loose dogs and such & it's just been incident after incident. People should be punished for purposfully letting their dogs run free. Any animal can turn at anytime. 🙁

  21. Yesterday there was a tragedy nearby! A man died after a pit's single bite on his neck. The dog kept the bite for 5 minutes. There was a storm in the region and the wind opened the gate where the dog was (go figure how safe that gate was). It ran to the street and attacked the first person it saw, that man.

  22. I have a service dog that was trained by an agency, we as handlers are not allowed to take our dogs to dog parks for the simple reason that someone always brings a bully dog and you can never tell exactly which one is which, dogs are unpredictable. I always carry a spray bottle full of vinegar and spray it in the dog's eyes if they come too close. If I see a dog off leash I turn around right away and go back the other direction. Another thing that might work is an umbrella because most dogs are not desensitized to an open umbrella. I have never had my dog attacked by another dog but we did come very close at children's hospital where I live there were two pit bulls that came around the corner just as I was putting my dog in the car. You always have to be vigilant when you go on walks and always carry your phone. I have to be especially vigilant because of being physically disabled and having a service dog one bad attack can ruin a service dog for life! Not to mention that so many people can just buy a vest and put it on their dog regardless if he's well-trained or not. Thank you for some of the legal advice I guess it just depends at what state or country you live in

  23. We lost our little maltis 1.5 years agow. When we went for a walk our neighbors pitbull attacked her and killed. My husband tryed to beat him but dog pushed him and he falled down. Dog even didn't have collar. Yang girl got out of house but couldn't do anything. It was very terrible!

  24. Firstly visiting dog parks is crazy and asking for trouble coz these terrible things will no doubt happen. Secondly, when I leave my property with my dog I carry a tazer. Here in South Africa there are many stray dogs just lusting for a fight. I use the tazer to shoo them away from us before they can even get a bite in. My dog and I only go to places where dogs must be on leash or we just do not go.

  25. Not long ago a friend of mine had a guest who had their two big dogs unsupervised in her fenced in yard. The
Shepherd mix grabbed a tiny senior dog next door pulling it under the fence and out of it's yard into her yard and
mauled it as the bulldog joined in. It died on the way to the vet. Instead of doing the right thing and apologizing
and paying the vet bill, this guest took her dogs in her car and left. My friend cut ties with her. Awful scenario.

  26. in my experience size doesn't matter. In 75% of the cases where my leashed dogs were bite or rushed by other dogs they were smaller terrier types. That being said I agree all dogs should be under control (fence, leash, manners) to keep everyone safe and happy. Yesterday i just experienced 2 terriers burst out of their full size fence door and immediately start going for my dogs stomach. The owner pretended she didn't speak english when i asked her to keep her gate locked.

  27. In the UK they won’t prosecute dog on dog attacks however if a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place the owner can be prosecuted for that reason. In fact in UK you only have to feel scared of a dog and the owner can get into trouble which then means you can get unfair prosecutions too. My dog was attacked twice needing vet treatment. I just used my insurance as both times the owner was very apologetic and gave me their number. I didn’t even ask for the excess. Some people though ought not to own dogs and it’s a big problem here in London.
