  1. Been feeding raw food diet to labs, GSP, GSD like Mother Nature designed them to eat for 14 years. Their cousins the fox, coyote, wolf don't eat out of bags and boxes, nor do they ravage corn and wheat fields. Problem is most humans don't understand how to feed themselves appropriately, and most are too da*m lazy to eat properly for themselves or their pets and how they were designed to eat. I am fortunate to live in rural Idaho and encounter road kill venison to harvest for my pack plus I have many hunter friends and good butchers for appropriate scraps and organ meats. Plus I harvest local plants to add to the canines diet as they would eat their preys stomach contents for balance. I also have a dedicated freezer and commercial grade grinder to process their food. It takes commitment, but I rarely need to see a vet. My cats are on raw food as they are true carnivores too.

  2. Blessings and hey I want to know what can I do for my dogo with sensitive stomach and skin and I think environmental allergies, will raw actually help her allergies. I’m feeding her taste of the wild lamb grain free, gave her some raw chicken necks but it bothers her bowel movement. Can you give me an opinion or something to help me please. God Bles

  3. I absolutely love this! My vet always looks at me cross eyed when I say we do raw.
I started raw because my chihuahua mix at age 7 began to have lesions all over. We were feeding kibble (I forget the brand). I had him on prednisone for a year with no alleviation of symptoms. So I researched. He has been 100% for 4 years now. No prednisone, no infections, no over powering dog smell. I follow the 80%, 10%, 5 and 5 % method.
My two bigger girls one a lab the other a GSD, neither have had any allergy (or really any medical issues at all) I can't afford to give the big girls 100% raw, but I ensure the get a kibble that is meat based the first 2 ingredients at a minimum. I appreciate your educating dog lovers! Thank you!

  6. Here in the States are laws that requires a two year shelf life for pet foods. Manufacturers cook at extremely high pressures & temperature that scientists found a very toxic chemical was produced. Doc? You've no idea how grateful I am for ALL you share !
    God bless! Thank you.

  7. I have a chihuahua she is so picky I tried to feed her raw food she will not eat it my vet did say not to give her raw food so I tried cooking her food she ate it at first then stop she does have allergies so I'm going to try cooking it again so I hope this is good for her to

  8. Can you give more of an idea how much raw meat and what tipe of raw. In New Zealand our beef, lamb and venison are grass fed but the beef and lamb get antibiotics in to keep them healthy so ek think venison the best we don't have turkey meat and the chicken to much grown hormones so please help me🐶

  9. Of course it is!! BUT my newf would only eat 1-1 1/2 lbs a day(he’s 14 months now)
He’s supposed to eat 3-4lbs based on weight activity etc.. he was losing weight!!! I had to put him in Orijen kibble and I supplement with slightly cooked meat.

  10. My dog has yeast infection. The Vet prescribed him ketoconazole. He's been having all the symptoms you are discussing. I did some research and found that it is toxic and can disrupt the natural enzymes in their gut. I thought he had mange, but he he said, "No." I'm looking for a healthier way, because I don't want to keep giving him drugs.

  11. The Primal Pack is a YouTube channel dedicated to raw feeding. I’m case you’re interested in checking it out. That channel explains raw feeding very well!! 😊

Thank you @veterinarysecrets for all you do!

  12. The book "Feeding Dogs" by Dr Conor Brady is an excellent read. It has a huge reference section and I hope that it reaches far and wide. I live in New Zealand and have yet to find a vet that even acknowledges raw feeding. Thank you so much, Dr Jones, for your brilliant channel 😃🐶

  13. Raw has always been the best food to feed your dogs not man mad foods his passion, it is natural to feed your dog rabbit or natural chicken not from a shop that is bleached think in the old days when people dead home mad foods to their dogs and they hunted for foods and fewer vet bills

  14. Dr Jones i love your videos . I wish you would have covered the difference between raw meat and cooking meat for our dogs. As well how much raw meat per meal . My Frenchy has many allergies.

  15. I've fed my dogs raw food only for 10 years now and they simply never have to visit the vet. They have no allergies, their bodies are very toned and healthy, their breath doesn't smell nor the fir and I'm super impressed with their general health and fitness.

  16. I tried instinct dog food and my 2 year old husky has now GE issues I need to change this food but i don’t know which one to buy now .. I can’t feed raw for now .. can you please recommend a good dog food .. my husky needs to gain weight .. thank you

  17. Paco & molly won’t eat raw food ☹️ they do like slow cook New Zealand lamb. Or organic chicken. I give them a few duck and pumpkin treats but avoid the kibble since there are only 10% moisture. What about salmonella in raw food ?

  18. I read somewhere that if a dog owner is allergic to their dog, changing the dog’s diet to gluten free changes the ph of its saliva and reduces the owners allergies to it. True?

  19. Are these food allergies a cause for blepharitis? Or is blepharitis caused by multiple allergies? Is raw better to feed if they got blepharitis?
I’m having trouble figuring this out to help my pup with blepharitis 😢.. thank you Dr. Jones for your time and expertise.. in the last year I started cooking my pups food.. he seem happier but he still got blepharitis in the last 8 months and I’m having trouble finding the cause .. any hints as to what I need to research ? Food , dust, his bed and blankets? his hair? 🤷‍♀️ I’m almost at my wits end with blepharitis.. help!!

  20. I feel validated seeing this video after feeding my dogs (pugs, terriers, mastiffs) a raw diet for over 20 years. I currently have a mixed breed terrier and a boston terrier. My current Vet is completely against raw diet, but was still the most willing of vets in my rural area, to listen to 'my side' of the story. If any one has smashed faced dogs with limited jaw power to get through raw bones….. like pugs and frenchies, or old dogs that have lost teeth and you still want to get the nutrition of raw bone in their diet, read on for my solution. When my pugs got older I began grinding whole chickens with bone. I found an inexpensive home grinder that could handle chicken bone or smaller. Every 4-6 weeks I grind up 4 chickens with a few extra cartons of liver. I have to chop up the chickens with a cleaver into pieces that will fit into the grinder. A wing will fit through, if bones are broken up limp with the cleaver, but larger bones will need more hacking. I put everything through the grinder, all pieces, skin bone, neck, gizzards. I pack up this ground chicken and bone mixture into plastic food containers that hold about 3-4 cups each. I place these in the freezer and take out one at a time to use. (for my small dogs, I feed 2-3 ounces of this mixture per feeding) PART 2) Dog Soup. The second part of my raw recipe comes from the need to warm this ground meat mixture to room temp or slightly warmer at feeding time. For the soup I put a 50/50 mixture of sweet potato & white potato in a large soup pot (my pot holds 4lbs sweet & 4lbs white), add a couple of leeks and a few turnips. Fill up the pot with 50/50 mixture of chicken stock and filtered water. Cook the mixture for a couple of hours until everything is soft and mushy. Cool it, then puree in blender and place in food storage containers (it looks like a squash soup). PART 3) Feeding.  I place a measured amount (based on dog weight and activity level)  of ground meat & bone mixture in the dog bowl.  I microwave a portion of the Dog Soup in a glass measuring cup until bubbling hot and I stir it slowly into the ground meat mixture, tempering while stirring, trying not to 'cook' the meat.  I add enough soup mixture just to bring the meat to above room temp. (You do NOT want to cook the meat and bone mixture. The dogs get more nutrition from this source when it is in a raw state, but it is better for their digestion if it is not served cold from the refrigerator.) I use a few tablespoons of the dog soup per feeding, per dog. Once the meat mixture and soup have been mixed to bring up the food temp, I top of the bowl with a fish oil capsule, & a dollop of whole milk yogurt.  I alternate this ground chicken & bone feeding and use the same technique with reg ground beef, or even a can of sardines. I also give them beef neck bones to chew on weekly that i get from Raley's. My dogs are too small to break through a beef bone but they do chew off all of the meat from the neck bones and enjoy chewing on them for hours. I am reminded by Dr. Jones video above about using eggs more frequently. I love the Dr.'s openness to admit that there is science backing feeding dogs a raw diet. Ever since the idea was brought to my attention, it made sense. Do the wolves and coyotes eat corn & wheat, or cook their rabbits over a fire when they catch them? Dogs are not that far removed in the evolutionary scale from wolves and coyotes. Domesticating dogs did not change what type of food and nutrients they require.

  21. Our collie developed a terrible allergy, before turning to a year old, no medication, hypoallergenic food helped. I researched and found the benefits of raw diet, we switched her immediately, best thing, I wish we had done it earlier, she's now 3 and thriving <3. Thank you for your great videos Dr Jones, I instantly subscribed. I follow Dr. Karen Becker for years, you're added to my "follow the great vets" list <3
