  1. My Zsa-Zsa does this when too excited. I close her nose to force her to take a breath through her mouth then hold her for a minute so she can calm down. And all is well again. We've been doing this for years.

  2. I have 3 dogs and they never do the reverse sneeze. 2 of the 3 have started doing this ALOT the last wk. I have done zyrtec, antibiotics and prednisone. Nothing is stopping it. I was wondering about kennel cough as my neighbor just got a 10 month old pup from the shelter and that's the only dog they have been in contact with. I don't know what else to try now.

  3. Is it normal for them to drool during a reverse sneeze episode? I’ve got a Shepherd/hound mix that gets the “shoestring” drools when he has stronger episodes. Thank you so much!

  4. I've had 2 generations of Bostons. My little man (15yo now), his nose is just slightly longer than his mom's. Like someone who doesn't know them wouldn't know the difference. But seemed to me to be enough of a difference… or maybe it's just him vs her, and I'm silly to attribute ot to his nose. Haha! But he's always been able to stop his own reverse sneezes. His mom, we always had to help her. She'd stand there, legs splayed and like paralyzed while doing it. Tigger will do it a few times and I don't have to help him.

However… after starting this video, it occurred to me that he hasn't really had any for some years now. The only thing I can think of that is conaistently different is I started giving him ground turmeric (with a little pepper, assuming that helps dog absorption like it does us) in his food like 3 or 4yrs ago.

He's been an allergy dog all his life. He was the first of the babies to get allergies when he was 4mo old. I've had several people tell me dogs don't typically get allergies before the age of 2 or something. I don't know but by the time they were 6mo, all 4 puppies were itching and scratching. His little sister was allergic to grass, poor thing. She'd break out when we took her out. At any rate, I've been battling Tig's allergies all his life. Environmental and food. He's finally doing the best he's ever done on Cytopoint. We did regular allergy shots and apoquel for years. But it never occurred to me that his reverse sneezing might be related to his allergies. Since it seems to simply be a Boston thing.

  5. When my 3 dogs had a cough , I treated them with Collodial Silver. The cough was gone within a few days. This kind of sneezing happens now and again with one of my dogs. And thats because of mentioned in this video ' pulling' on the lead. Thank you for all the great tips for our furballs . Much appriciated. I follow you from Sweden 🇸🇪

  6. He is a shiztu and also struggles with breathing when it happens, when active in the house or a potty break outside, it's very scary because he also tries to cough up a loogy, and or tries to sneeze 🤕 🤧

  7. I rub his throat he runs to me and wants me to rub his throat if he’s awake but I didn’t kno what it was I do kno for sure he does have allergies he’s almost 70 pounds pit bull full blooded he’s my baby … but at first we thought maybe seizures bc he would do this while he’s asleep sometimes too but if Im Near him I do rub his throat but I’ll def make the vet check for mites I hope he doesn’t have any mites at all but I think when we take him to vet they should check their eyes nose throats etc it should def be a must for sure idk what they do bc I’ve never been able to go back with him nor have I ever even seen his vet in person ever of course we got him when Covid started … so I know that really hindered alot but still at his year old checkup still wasn’t allowed to go back with him they set me in a room and took him back so I never get to talk to the vet at all but u would think that they could or would at least do a exam and check his ears nose throat etc should def be a thorough exam we as pet owners think ok it’s time for him to go to vet get his shots and medicine for the year so what does the vet even do do they check them out or not ??? I’m not sure ?? But all I do know is I get charged a whole lot for it but don’t know what they do he was only back there for about five minutes tops they should take their time with our animal and make sure there isn’t anything wrong with our babies I’m not sure what they do bc I have no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️ it might just be the vet I’m taking him too idk so I’m just wondering what do we get for the money we pay ?? I’m just curious ?? Do They not check their ears nose and throat at all ? Or Does Something got to be brought up for them to do that I know they know he’s got allergies bc they have given him a shot before bc of his skin but do they give meds for allergies only one time and it goes away or do they have to take medicine every day how does that work ?? I do know they only had to give one shot for his skin last year and it’s not been back like it was bad then but still has breathing issues his eyes run all the time his nose stays wet and cold and still have some spots come up so often but nothing like it was his eyes run so it may be the reason for this sneeze he has too bc of that and also ? Just curious??😢

  8. Thank you for this video, my dog sounds excalty just like this, thought it was due to him getting a hold of a bone, but then I realized he wasn't choking after trying to clear his airway, but I digress thank you for the solutions you posted here the petting and gently massaging worked wonders and the dog calmed down

  9. I have. Half corgi half Aussie that does this 10-30 times a day. And he's done it every day for the last two years but just in the last few weeks it has gotten so much more often! Any time he gets even a little excited or a little worked up he has a huge fit, could this be from mites that have lived in there for a long time and it's now getting worse? We have another dog, same breed, and he has never had this happen. I am of course so worried about him! Thanks for sharing info!

  10. My dog's reverse sneezed multiple times after a continuous nosebleed 😔 It's just sad. I am guessing it has something to do with blood clots. Our vet was not so helpful. He just gave me meds to stop the nose bleeding, antibiotics and that's it. He just said it will pass. Ibwas hoping for a lab test but none was offered. No post-checkup home care or whatsoever. I felt so bad for my dog. I am going to another vet tomorrow. Hopefully my buddy gets better soon. Thank you so much for this video.

  11. That's exactly what my chihuahua does! He also has allergies. He usually only gives out a few honks a day but he's got me worried. I'd sure like to see him get better quickly. Thanks for this video. I'm heading over to your site.

  12. But why are her other dogs doing it? Both my dogs just started doing it. It seems more like they’re catching some contagion 😷
Mine both came from the vet a few days before.

  13. When our dog does this I open freezer and hold dog up so she can breathe the cold air and it usually gets her straightened out really fast cause I know while they are sneezing it seems like they are not gonna catch their breath. Stay calm and let them breath the coldest air from the freezer and it will sooth their throat and they will get right and stop. You can also force their mouth open and they will take a few full breaths and then that helps get lots of cold air in fast. Hope this helps someone with their fur baby.

  14. I’ve only noticed my dog does this when she is on her anxiety medicine and then when we switched to a tranquilizer (for storm anxiety). It’s absolutely terrifying because she is so out of it. Is this something I need to worry about? I’m so scared to use the medicine now, but now she suffers through the storms.

  15. Dr. Jones, Can I give both CBD oil and Krill oil supplements to my 11-year-old, 13 lb Poochan? she has seasonal allergies (skin and ears) which are now year-round as we live in heat and humidity year-round, and reverse sneezing almost every day but a history of it for 5 years, and Patellar Luxation in the rear leg.

  16. Thank you so much for the very informative video! <3
My 10 year old dog has been doing the same thing for 2-3 months and I am just now finding out what this type of sneezing is called.
Due to a stomach carcinoma, detected in October 2020, he takes daily Sucralfate and Metoclopramide. One of the side effects of sucrafalate is dry mouth and one of the side effects of metoclopramide is swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, so we thought that would eventually be the reason for his reverse sneezing…anyway the doctor did not discontinue any of these medications.
Since a few days ago we discovered that he has lumps under his eyes and that it could be his lymph nodes that are swollen (due to his cancer?), plus his neck hurts 🙁
We are wondering, if instead of Sucralfate or Metoclopramide, our doggy has too little space to swallow and/or breathe due to the swollen lymph nodes and that's why he has this sneeze. What do you think? Many thanks in advance 🙂

  17. I don't know if anyone will see this, as this video is from 3 months ago, but I have a question, if someone can answer me. My dog does this reverse sneezing like 5 or 6 times a year, but when he does that, he "swallows his tongue". Like, he puts his tongue back, and I'm scared of leaving him alone, because I don't know if that is normal in reverse sneezing, and if it happens when I'm not around I don't know if he will be able to stop without help.

  18. Our rescue Lab mix was making this noise and I thought it was just his time to go, he's 14+ and we've had him for 2 years and never heard this noise, so I obviously panicked when he woke up in the middle of a deep sleep making this noise
At first I thought it was Congestion but when it continued I panicked and my friend sent me this

  19. my vet said it is possible my dog has s burr or something in her sinuses and the only way to tell is with head CT which is expensive. To me it sounds like allergies i live abroad and can't get benedryl I adopted her and another whippet about 3 months ago, only one has this. She sneezes often and will occasionally will sneeze up fluid/snot.
