  1. As far as the food goes , do you feed him once a day ?
Thank you for these videos my Rotty has been going through seizure this past month and it’s one of the hardest things to watch and experience

  2. Left a previous comment on here about our Jura hound and her severe epilepsy. Anyway we have been on this diet for a month now, and no seizures so far. And Emily has severe refractory epilepsy, which nothing so far has worked. Even sedating her at the vets doesn't stop the seizures. They just come back 10 times worse. So yeah, so far no seizures, raw diet only with MCT oil. Seems to be working ✌️✌️✌️💞

  3. On this diet for your dog, is this every meal, or is it more of a fatty meal first thing in the morning? Had your dog ever smelled the vitamins in the meal and shy away from the smell? This may sound dumb to you, but can a dog have yogurt? I don't give them sugary substances however as a treat we all sit down together on the kitchen floor and I give them yogurt, with honey (1/2) a tablespoon for allergens floating around in the air.

  4. We have a Jura hound called Emily and she came to us from Cyprus.

She has really and epilepsy, has about 10 grand mal seizures over the course of a few days every month and the worst part is the post ictal phase, the constant howling, bumping into things, pacing and unable to shut her brain off.

We've admitted her and even when the vets put her under to break the cycle of seizures they start again. So we've hit a brick wall.

She's on all the usual pharmaceutical medications and we did manage to stop the seizures for nearly 5 whole months when we added Scullcap and Valarian tablets to her medication regimen but then the seizures starred again.

Anyways we've changed her diet, raw meat with sweet potatoes and carrots (lots of taurine) with MCT oil.

We've just past the one month mark, she should have had her seizures by now for this month and so far nothing…….fingers crossed this works for her ♥️♥️👌

  5. My 2 and a half months beagle pup has had seizures for the past 15 days, she has had 5-7 mins seizure 3 times already and her head is completely tilted to the right side, when I try moving her head a little she starts weeping. There has been a watery mucusy discharge from her eyes since yesterday too. Other signs are extreme lethary and pooping while the seizure attacks.. the doctors all just describe different medicines but say that there is no cure… so, after watching many of your seizure reslted videos, I wanted to ask if there is any cure for seizure or if atleast it can be reduced to once or twice a year. Also, if her head will return back to normal cuz she cant even eat and drink properly. Thank you! Plz reply as soon as possible…

  6. Thank you so much I’m going to try this , my dog is a lab / German Shepered mix he’s going to be 2 years old next month…. About 2 days ago he had a seizure out of nowhere I grabbed him put him in the back seat of my car took him to our vet who is about 4 minutes from my house as I pulled in to the parking lot he came to but it was very noticeable that he was disorientated they did his blood work and they showed me the paperwork and he’s a very healthy active little boy and they did not want to prescribe him anything…. Last night around 11 pm he had another seizure unfortunately the hospital was closed so I’ve been up all night keeping an eye on him looking up videos on how to help him out thank you for this information

  7. Hello Dr Jones, I’m feeding my Siberian Husky 1/2egg shell for every lb meat. Is it okay to use the Ultimate Canine Health Formula at the same time? Is it too much calcium? Thank you!

  8. My poor little 3 year old Pom has a lumbar issue and a bad hip that we believe is causing her seizures. They are so extreme and suddenly became frequent and violent after she fell off the couch. Her balance and awareness has never been good and we wondered why? We tried some pet CBD oil once a day and she threw it up. It was not helping the seizures at the time, so the vet recommended phenobarbital. We have had her on it for over a month now. It helped immediately at a very low dose, but now is not helping. She has terrible stomach upsets and spits up a lot; today she is throwing up. Is there a safe way to transition her off of the meds and onto your version of CBD oil and this diet? She appears dizzy and very sick, disoriented. My vet says there is nothing we can do about spinal condition, only pain management and seizure management. Sad, sad, sad. Love this little dog and want to help her!

  9. Our 16 year old golden had a major seizure last night . Needless to say I’m not able to make our local vet rich . She is not in pain and back to her normal. I am starting this diet today in hopes that it will help her quality of life . It’s so sad to think we will no longer have animals because where I live the vets charge an arm and leg for service . Thank you for the tips .

  10. Interesting. My dog developed epilepsy suddenly when she was 3.5 years old, she started having them once a month. We opted not to put her on medication as they were not that frequent and not multiple in nature. We did get diazepam which I only used once because it was the only time she ended up having another seizure almost immediately after the other.

Curiously she’s also a picky eater and we always ended up swapping her food to keep her interested in it. After about 6 months of her having seizures we swapped her onto a salmon and potato feed. She loved this and we didn’t need to keep swapping every month to keep her interested. Her seizures became rarer and we now only saw her having them every 3 months or so.

After a while of her having the 3 monthly seizure I realized one happens about a week after I had swapped from salmon and potato to salmon and brown rice since they were out of it. I thought back and could recall similar events for the other seizures, but perhaps it was a coincidence and maybe I was mistaken, but the next time it happened it took about a week and she had another seizure. From that day on she’s been on a bunch of different feeds as I’ve moved country but all of them have been salmon and potato based and she has pretty much stopped having seizures altogether. It’s also kind of telling that it’s the only feed she’s never gotten bored of.

I’m not sure why it works, whether it’s the high taurine content or the omega 3 of the salmon or if it’s the potassium of the potatoes, I’ve no clue. All I know is that it’s been years since her last seizure. She is turning 12 years old this year, and aside from some arthritis which we are managing, she’s otherwise healthy and happy.

It’s amazing what diet can do for their health (and ours too really). And even though animals can’t talk, they sure can let us know they’re not happy with something if we listen well enough.

  11. My dog has seizures and he’s on phenobarbital. I hate him being on it.
The vets want to restrict him when it’s time for a refill. He goes 3 days on 2 doses during the waiting game.
If we choose to pay $$$ he can have it instantly.
Ty for this video. Sharing and saving it.
You help so much. More than I can ever thank you.
Saved us from recalled dog food a few days ago.

  12. My sheltie started having seizures after I switched dog food brands as they were OUT her brand…15 mins after meals she would have a seizure…my country vet said get her OFF pet food immediately…he found that many dogs that had ingested ROSEMARY that is used for a preservative was causing this. Checked labels of current dog food to regular dog food and SURE enough..this was the culprit. On sheltie forums others were finding this link as well. Dogs do NOT need rosemary and some REACT badly to it.

  13. How do I do the transition from medication to this diet? Should I stop his medication overnight? What do you recommend? My dog is a rescued and he had distemper, that how he gets his seizures.

  14. I hear from a human who had a dangerously bad seizure while driving.. no chicken, no turkey, no poultry in general. No berries. Especially red berries. This is what he was told to avoid eating by his Doc. I'm wondering if there's a tie between the chickens (dog being in their environment) and the seizures?

  15. You are fantastic Dr Jones!… My dog has very mild seizures.. You know; he does the weird licking his nose thing, and he has fade-outs ; but not very much… The other two dogs who are his relatives, also have epilepsy, with Tedi having the worse symptoms… grand mal seizures… so, is it the carbs that help trigger the episodes? And does that mean that he can't have any bisquits at all? It's hard to find healthy substitutes for the cookies….Is this a constant diet or is there room for deviations? I just don't think my little scamperlicious will eat the same thing evry day; he won't even eat gizzards; his favorite food; two days in a row…

  16. Our vet recently administered a 1year flea treatment on our dog , shortly after she started having seizures. I took her back was giving a medication to help supposedly with them, instead it made weak and could not control her legs, therefore unable to walk. Is there a safe transition off all medication to this diet? Please , I don't want to put her down😭😭. When on a different medication now,she sleeps while under the influence of meds.

  17. This is such an important video!!! And it gets straight to the point!
About 7 years ago my dog was diagnosed with epilepsy, and I've been researching what foods/supplements to give him to help avoid the triggers. I began adding taurine to his diet, and give him good quality food. He probably has a seizure once a year now (if that), and it's typically preceded by something very stressful. — Thank you for this information on what to also feed my pooch. Didn't know about the krill oil. You are a real blessing!!! 🙂
