I lost my girl to bloat and I still don't understand how it had happened. She ate slowly ,homemade meals twice a day, kibble free, no exercise after food. It happened at midnight and even after knowing what had happened to her, I couldn't save her because there is no emergency veterinary here. I stayed helpless by her side the whole night and it's one of the worst moments of my life. The trauma still lingers in my mind. I love you Daisy.

My dog (greyhound) eats kibble, he is 38 kilos and has 3 cups in the morning 2 and a half at night, is that too much? Also I’m interested into changing to a no kibble diet, what would I use a instead? Just canned meat?

Hoping for a response 🙏🏼 I have a 2yo cat recovering from an infection that stopped eating and lost a lot of weight. I syringe fed him for two weeks, now he will eat but under daily requirements. Should I be prodding him more, syringe feeding him, or something else? I got a high calorie gel he doesn’t like, tried multiple foods, tried warming the food and basically all the “online tricks” I can find with limited results. He’s probably at 150 cal/day but really needs to gain weight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you for addressing kibble! dogs are made to scarf down their food. it's not the high moisture raw that's causing bloat, it's kibble!

I know of several standard size Dachshunds who have bloated, including one of my own. He had gastropexy in December.
Excellent advice, had the twisted stomach in our old GSD, she died. Now I feed 3 times a day and although I use dry food, it is much, much less, in favour of raw/tinned meat without additives and eggs and unskinned potatoes with additional veg once a week.

Can this happen in smaller breeds like Schipperkes? My dog started panting like crazy last night and keeps hacking though nothing comes out. I took her to an animal hospital today (the best in the area) but the technician said he couldnt see any urgency and to just make an appointment with my regular vet. But now my dog is not eating. Any advice?
Lost a boxer to bloat several years ago . No kibble … lesson learned !
we had 2 danes that bloated, both went thru emergency surgery. both made it but it was very tramatic. people should also do a tummy tack, which will prevent a twist and give them time to get to the hospital.elevated feeders/waterers,and NO exercise 1 hr after eating minutes make the difference. thank you for doing this…
