  1. My dog had a relapse after 14 months for IMHA, main cause was a leptospirosis vaccine that retriggered the IMHA. He’s had 10 transfusions in 1.5 weeks, and is currently undergoing therapeutic plasma exchange and his his third round tomorrow. I’m hoping he pulls through, if your dog has IMHA or you suspect they do, DO NOT get them any vaccines, including rabies. This could trigger an event, which is what happened with my pup. We’ve spent $50,000 in treatment so far, which may go up depending on whether or not he gets better after the third TPE treatment.

  2. I just recently lost my boy, my best friend named Brock to this, the doc treating him had him on prednisone and did a blood transfusion. He was admitted on a Thursday and couldn't walk on the Thursday I had to carry him to the car and into the vet when I got there. The vet kept him in the cage with the drip and I visited everyday. I was told his red blood cell count was 8 on Friday morning. After transfusion and on Saturday morning his blood count doubled to 16. I visited him everyday and twice on Saturday. Saturday he started drinking water. On Sunday i got him some kfc chicken and the vet had given him chicken as well he ate about 3 pieces of chicken in total. Obviously without the bones. I kept the other 2 pieces to feed him the next morning. And the next morning the vet called me, his guy that cleans there called him and told him my boy had gone. Doc said hes very sure either a clot got into his lung or heart. And I did do research and seems a common occurrence. Im really stunned and heartbroken from losing such a special guy that was so close to me. He was 8 years old and a pitbull mix breed. Very kind and compassionate boy. I had him on bravecto and previously to that nexguard. He was treated twice last year for tick bite fever from which he recovered. I even gave him another higher dose of bravecto as I saw him a few days before the vet visit that he was scratching but he wasnt due for bravecto till another month and a half. I thought maybe the bravecto lost its potency or something. I have read up that tick bite infections can cause IMHA and we have seen with Brock that his white blood cells were attacking his red cells. I will never ever take ticks or fleas anymore likely than I have now going forward those things are life sucking death dealers to our pets and should be eradicated.

  3. Can I give these supplements quercetin, omega, and green tea flavanoid along side prednisone , Plavix and azathioprine? Please help me IMHA blood count was at 23% yesterday 2nd day if prednisone. I'm stopping the antibiotic doxy as I think it's overwhelming his liver?

  4. Hello all who read the captions. The very good doc is saying "emboli" at 5:04ish. I couldn't make it out and thought that this might help someone else out. 😀

Fish oil/Omega 3 Fatty Acids 1000mg per 10kg of bodyweight (bw) daily
    Vitamin E 100iu per 10kg bw daily
Quercetin 5-10mg per 10kg bw twice daily

Thank you very much for this video. I'm studying vet med and your explanation made the whole concept so much more real to me.

  5. Hi, I had been watching YouTube trying to find answer. Since the vet doesn’t want to promise anything.

My 6 months shih tzu ate 4 pennies and 1 dime. She was poisoned from zinc poisoning. She have to have surgery and remove those coins. After the surgery she felt better and she was able to go home 3 nights later. The same night I brought her home. She has diarrhea and vomited. Took her back to the vet. He diagnosed her with IMHA. Before they can do treatment. He did an ultrasound on her and found that her intestines was stacking on each other. She had another surgery. He removed some intestines. She is up and walking right day after the surgery.

My question will my baby be able to fight through Secondary IMHA?

  6. Hi Vet. I have a 3 month old Belgian Malinois puppy. She tested positive for parvovirus when she was 7 weeks old. She was hospitalized, while going through highs and lows. She was prescribed an immunostimulator to help her fight the virus, and after 7 days hospitalized, she came home. She was weak and showing lack of appetite, but she was stable. Since her immune system was depressed (even though she was isolated), she got coccidiosis and then once again she had to go onto treatment. Blood tests started to show a WBC count increase, and ever since, they haven't gone back to normal. She has been through a lot, but still she keeps on fighting. I am truly desperate, for the last 5 weeks she has been in and out the hospital. The doctors haven't been able to figure out what is going on with her. In the hopes of getting a response, I just wanted to write you and see if you have seen any similar case, or if you recommend having some other tests done. I am open if you are to have an online consultation (payed of course). Please let me know what you think of this. All the best, Daniela.

  7. Hi doc. My german shepherd diagnose leucopenia and anemia microcytosis cold agglutinin anisocytosis. Is it curable? Her vet prescribe her supplement for immune system, vitamins, and ferrous sulfate.

  8. My dogs behavior became very off . She wasn't eating, barely drinking water unless we put it to where she could lick it without moving her head, very shaky. Didn't sleep in my bed she had trouble getting on my bed or the couch. I took her to the vet and they kept her overnight and did blood tests the next morning because we were all so confused on what could cause this. They thought maybe she got into chemicals at first. I got referred to a 24 hour pet hospital. She had 2 blood tranfusions and she is home now but im just gonna be worried for a long time until I'm certain her medication will work. If anyone has any success stories or even stories where the dog didn't make it please let me know. Im not sure of her chance of survival and if the pills will work. She's a 3 year old chiuahuah.

  9. My puppy's mom died right after she was born she never had her mom's milk properly and now she is 2 and a half month old but she has become so weak she doesn't move she doesn't eat I'm so concern for her I don't wanna lose her.

  10. My spayed 24.5 pd 6 yr old Chiweenie Minnie became suddenly ill 7/16/20. Next day vet said she had jaundice. ALKP & TBIL on liver panel just in high range. RBC, HCT, HBG, MCHC a bit more so in low range MCV, RETIC, MPV midway in high range. Negative on SNAP Pro for most common tick-borne diseases her in North Central WI.

She's been on 5mg Prednisolone, 136mg Enrofloxacin, 50 mg Doxycycline twice daily for 28 days of today 8/13/20.

As of 7/23/20 her ALKP & TBIL levels were just into high range as was her GLU. But her MCV & RETIC far right of high range, MCH and white cells just in high range BUT HER EOS at far end of low.
As of 7/30/20 everything shifting toward normal except MCV which was still far right on high range. THIS WHOLE TIME PLATELETS IN NORMAL RANGE.

Switch from kibble to chicken & chicken liver pate with antioxidant supplements and boiled salmon in a bag.

Since all dogs need a job and the doxie in her was on Hunt mode, thats what I did with her; 24 voles, two chickmunks, some squirrel & rabbits on long line everyday. She killed & buried them. I now know exercise induced and heat induced stress causes an immune response. Also oral tick meds do NOT prevent tick bites and one only needs 3-12hrs to transmit to anaplasmosis as can Deer Fly.

Her PCV was 20% on 7/20/20. Hope its 30%, preferably >38% so we can start weaning her off the Prednisole today.

QUESTION: Can she still die from pulmonary thromboembolism and/or hemorrhage by day 57 of IMHA when her platelets have been normal levels? She has not been on very-low-dose aspirin and her vet thinks she really doesn't have IMHA
