I find the best shops are just outside the Centrum circle of dam. Jordan and De Pijp districts have the best shops like 1ehulp, Club Media, De Kade & Katsu which are some of my favourite in that area. Had a shit time at Rick's Cafe years ago too and the weed there is dirt!
