  1. Well…Gelato isn't only about the absence of overrun; there's a big difference in fat content, here in Italy we balance recipes with a maximum of 10% of fat, and cream isn't the main ingredient at all, it's milk.

  2. McConnell's is good but not great. Definitely overpriced. They use tapioca starch. Which might be better than gum base that other cheap brands use as a thickening agent. But that always ruins the taste for me. Brands like Haggen Daz, Strauss Creamery, Van Leeuwen all don't use thickening agents… just cream milk sugar eggs. Van Leeuwen is the first brand I've noticed to add salt, and they have the best vanilla in my opinion French custard Style

  3. i find the music that plays in the background during the part where the lady is talking about the wars that happen over the vanilla a bit patronising – might have been nicer to have taken it a bit more serious considering they're pretty much living in fear for this woman to have her vanilla beans. Bit of a underlying race issue there as well, i hope you can see where i am coming from! 🙂

  4. This is my hometown and I rarely go to McConnell’s simply because it’s a wee bit overrated and a large bit overpriced. It still tastes great though! Their olive oil and salted almond flavor is the absolute best!
