How to Find the Best CBD Cream

How to Find the Best CBD Cream
Sun West Genetics

The CBD market only continues to grow. Various products can help you achieve wellness in different ways. One of the most innovative products is CBD cream. But what can it treat? And how do you find the best CBD cream?

TL;DR

CBD cream is a type of CBD topical. It can benefit the body by offering localized relief to sore muscles and joints and dry and irritated skin.

Out of all of the creams on the list, I recommend FABCBD’s cream the most. It can relieve tired muscles but also works as an everyday moisturizer.

However, if you need serious healing, I suggest looking at the more targeted products on this list.

What Is CBD Cream?

CBD cream is a type of topical CBD application. Salves and balms are other options, which I will mention later in the article.

Topicals, including creams, are best if you want localized healing. That’s because topicals don’t reach the bloodstream. Ingesting and inhaling CBD will give you overall body wellness since they’re absorbed in your system.

What Can CBD Cream Treat?

Since CBD cream is localized, it lacks all of the different ways it can heal the body. But it is suitable for pain and skin, depending on the product you use.

Pain

Many people are switching to CBD to reduce different types of pain. So much so to where more than 50% of participants in a survey reduced their pain medication intake when taking CBD.

Some data supports CBD’s effectiveness in decreasing inflammation associated with various conditions. Other sources suggest that CBD is also a good treatment for joint stiffness.

Skin Issues

The CBD skincare industry is taking off. That’s because CBD is said to have various skincare benefits. As stated previously, CBD is an anti-inflammatory agent. This also relieves many skin conditions, such as acne.

For me, CBD decreased the inflammation I experience from eczema. And I’m not the only one. In another study, 50% of participants said CBD improved their eczema breakouts. These anti-inflammatory benefits also extend to those with psoriasis.

Side Effects

Studies show that topical CBD products are well-tolerated.

In addition, CBD topicals are safer to use since you’re not ingesting or inhaling anything. With that being said, CBD creams really don’t come with any adverse effects at all. Just be sure that you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients.

How to Find the Best CBD Cream

Are you convinced that CBD cream will benefit you? If so, you’ll want to know how to choose the best CBD cream to get the results you want. Here are some factors to look for.

Type

CBD comes in three main types:

Isolate
Broad spectrum
Full spectrum

Isolates only use CBD from the hemp plant. Broad spectrum uses CBD and all other cannabinoids and terpenes, minus THC. Full spectrum CBD contains all cannabinoids and terpenes from the hemp plant, in addition to less than 0.3% THC.

Which type is right for you? Full and broad spectrum CBD products are more potent thanks to other cannabinoids and terpenes. Isolates are best if you’re trying to treat mild symptoms.

Hemp Source

Find hemp that’s locally sourced from a farm based in your region. The hemp should be grown organically and not contain any GMOs, pesticides, or other dangerous substances.

Ingredients

Avoid brands that don’t use natural ingredients in their products or don’t contain potent amounts of CBD. Keep on the lookout for any harsh smells and other chemicals.

Third-Party Lab Report

Reputable CBD brands will get their products tested by a third-party independent lab. These labs test CBD products for purity, potency, effectiveness, quality, and safety.

The lab then publishes the results as the certificate of analysis (COA) document. Most companies make their COA available online. If not, then customers should easily be able to contact the company and view the lab reports.

How to Use CBD Cream

Massage the CBD cream into the area where you need it. Make sure you only use a small amount. Apply the cream as required or as recommended by the brand. I recommend using CBD regularly, at around the same time every day.

Other Types of CBD Topical Products

There are a few other types of CBD topicals, including:

Lotions
Ointment
Roll-ons

Here’s a breakdown of each type.

CBD Lotions

CBD lotion is very similar to CBD cream. Both terms are often used interchangeably. CBD lotion can be used for pain and inflammation and contains moisturizing ingredients to heal dry skin.

Lotions have higher water content, so they’re less greasy and lighter. They also absorb quicker. Again, CBD creams and lotions target similar problems, so use the product that you prefer.

CBD Ointment

CBD ointment (often called a salve or balm) has a high oil content, so they stay on top of the skin instead of absorbing the way a cream or lotion does.

Because of this, most pain and inflammation CBD products are in ointment form instead of a cream or lotion (though some brands offer a pain cream/lotion due to preference).

In addition, ointments are sometimes the better solution for specific skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, and rashes.

CBD Roll-Ons

CBD roll-ons are more of a jelly material than ointments and lotions.

Roll-ons are made in a stick packaging, so you just apply the stick directly to the area bothering you. This is convenient because your hands don’t get dirty. Most CBD pain-relief products are available as roll-ons.

Should I Use CBD Oil Instead?

You may be told to digest CBD to get full-body healing. Most people take an oil tincture, though edibles and capsules are also options.

Should you digest CBD instead of applying it topically? If you need full-body healing or want to improve more than one area with CBD, digest it to cover all of your needs. These oils are absorbed in the bloodstream and enter the endocannabinoid system to heal different areas.

But if you have localized issues, such as muscle soreness in one area or dry skin, a CBD topical is the best solution. The topical sinks into the skin to nourish irritated skin and calm achy muscles and joints.

How I Chose These Products

Here are some of the factors I considered when choosing these products:

Certificate of analysis
Made in the U.S.
Natural ingredients

Some other factors I considered include potency, price, and other ingredients that can aid your healing.

My Favorite CBD Cream

Redeem Therapeutics Pain Cream CBD

Best CBD Cream

This cream is best if you’re experiencing pain and inflammation, specifically in the muscles and joints. What’s great about this cream is it also contains capsicum, menthol, and arnica extract.

Skin-healthy ingredients such as jojoba oil, aloe, vitamin C, and tea tree oil also aids absorption. And with 1,500mg of CBD, this cream is definitely potent. This cream contains no THC and is only made with natural ingredients.

While Redeem Therapeutics offers a COA, you need to view it by searching for the product lot number. I can’t find the lot number on the product page, which tells me you need to purchase the cream first to view its COA results, which I don’t like.

Pros

Works quickly
Lasts a long time
Easy to apply
Natural ingredients

Cons

Customers complained of the menthol smell

Plant People Relief + Cooling Cream

Plant People Relief Cooling Cream

This is another cream that’s perfect for inflammation, pain, and stiffness.

The cream contains full spectrum CBD in addition to turmeric, menthol, and arnica flower extract. Because of these potent botanicals, you can feel the effects for a long time. The cream acts quickly, and the cooling effect is very soothing.

Pros

Cooling effect relaxes sore muscles
Affordable

Cons

750mg CBD may not be enough for some users
Some customers complained about the packaging

Green Roads Skin Relief CBD Cream

Green Roads Skin Relief CBD Cream

Green Roads is a company I never heard of but wished I did sooner.

The brand was formed by Lauren Fuentes, a licensed compounding pharmacist, in 2013. She originally designed CBD products for a friend and has created her own company since then. Pharmacists now continue to oversee the manufacturing process and even the product creation.

I’ve been recommending pain relief creams but wanted to suggest something for the skin. This cream is made with botanicals such as avocado oil, safflower oil, and lavender oil to soothe the skin.

Pros

Helps a diverse range of skin conditions
Formulated by a pharmacist
Can easily access the lab results on the product page
Affordable
CBD isolate

Cons

FABCBD Topical CBD Cream

FABCBD’s topical cream can help you achieve wellness in many ways.

Apply the cream to your tired muscles after a long day of work, or use it as your everyday body moisturizer. With 600mg of CBD, this is a good potency for new users (but not for experienced users or anyone with severe pain).

I’m also hearing great things about this company’s customer service. They only use organically grown hemp from Colorado in all of their products.

Pros

Can be used for a variety of different reasons
Use Colorado organic hemp
Affordable

Cons

No subscription service option

Joy Organics CBD Sports Cream

As a fitness enthusiast myself, those squats and lifts can cause some severe soreness. It’s worth having something to help out your achy muscles and joints, and Joy Organics makes the perfect cream for this purpose.

This cream contains 400mg of broad spectrum CBD, meaning there’s no THC. In addition to CBD, camphor and menthol will also help relieve that soreness. On the plus side, this cream is totally vegan!

If you never heard of Joy Organics, they’re one of my favorite brands.

They’re one of the few brands to boast an USDA-certified organic label on some of their products. They also use science and innovation toward their products, resulting in more beneficial effects than the competition.

Pros

Can relieve achy muscles and joints from fitness
USDA organic label on some of their products
400mg broad spectrum CBD
Non-greasy

Cons

Customers complained of a strong scent

FAQs

Question: How do CBD Creams Work?

Answer: The cannabinoids and other ingredients enter your body through the skin. If you’re using a pain cream, the ingredients will sink into your sore muscles and joints. If you’re using CBD cream for the skin, the ingredients will sink into the area of skin that’s causing you discomfort.

Question: I Found Hemp Cream. Is that the Same as CBD Cream?

Answer: No. Hemp cream is made with hemp seed oil. It’s abundant in vital nutrients but not cannabinoids, including CBD. Therefore, hemp cream is better for skin health as a daily moisturizer. If you need to relieve pain or severe skin conditions, look for CBD cream.

Question: How Long Until the Effects Kick in?

Answer: It usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, but it depends on the cream and the potency.

Question: I’m Using Full Spectrum CBD Cream with Less than 0.3% THC. Will the THC Still Show up on a Drug Test?

Answer: No. When applying CBD topically, the cannabinoids don’t enter the bloodstream. However, full spectrum CBD products that you digest or inhale may appear in a drug test, though they won’t get you high. In that case, opt for broad spectrum CBD or CBD isolates.

Question: Can I Travel With my CBD Cream?

Answer: First and foremost, all creams need to be under 3.4 ounces. If the cream is larger, you have to add it to a checked bag. While products containing hemp and CBD are technically allowed, please exercise caution. Understand that TSA agents may go through your CBD products to ensure they don’t contain marijuana.

If you’re traveling internationally, you must comply with the other country’s regulations. With that being said, if a country does allow CBD, you should be able to travel with your products.

Bottomline

CBD products are becoming more innovative, and there are many ways to relieve your condition with CBD. CBD creams can calm muscle and joint soreness. Many CBD creams are also great for the skin.

In order to find the best CBD cream, make sure the brand uses an organic hemp source and know which type of CBD to use. Always verify this information by looking at the third-party lab test result. Finally, read the ingredients list to ensure you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients.
