  2. I totally agree that quarantine with your pet is a perfect opportunity to have more quality time with them, and take comfort from them.. However, so far I have not read any information telling us how long the virus stays alive on dog hair or in animal saliva. Until that information is known, surely we all need to take care if a dog has had contact with someone who is in quarantine or is sick. According to recent research, the virus can stay alive on cloth for two days. It seems that it can be spread via people touching surfaces which are contaminated by the virus.

As I understood it, this video does not address the issue of the dog bringing the virus between a quarantined or sick person and the rest of the household on its fur or paws (or even it's mouth, given that it is licking the quarantined person in this video). Dogs are very active and love to run around floors and jump up on people and furniture, licking faces and hands. Personally, I feel the dog should be restricted to either the quarantined person/s, or the rest of the household. Not moving freely between both.

I'd like to see a clarification on your video addressing that particular issue. Particularly touching on issues such as precautions people could take if receiving a pet from someone who has taken ill. (e.g. give it a bath on arrival and wash all its belongings.) It would be great if you could even do a video on that issue, as some people might be asked to take the pet of another person who has gone into hospital and died. It would be tragic if people were to refuse to take them.

  3. Stay away from your animals- that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard- it crazy in times like this – the shit people will believe cuz most of them are sheeple

  4. I love Tula she is so adorable. Loved you holiday vidio😀. We have a little recuse Westie . He’s 11 years with no teeth bless him. Sadly he is also deaf. I have to clean his ears every day your video on how to clean and what to use was very helpful. We have had him for 5 months now and he is such a sweet and lovely natured dog. Even though we take him everywhere possible when we go out, he is loving the extra time and cuddles. As we are staying home as requested and not going on our long walks, hopefully to keep everyone as safe as possible. My husband is a key worker so has to work. I am retired so he is only ever left for 1 or 2 hours at the most. Take care. Thanks for all your videos . Jean from Birmingham UK.

  5. Okay. So, while I am by no means one to jump to any conclusions- I still have concerns. I have cats, so the recent story of the cat in Belgium that tested pos for "a" caronavirus- not verified to be covid19- after its owner tested pos for covid19 of course got my attention. I understand there isn't enough information about the test done, and that other strains of caronavirus are not uncommon in cats.
I have no concern of my cats passing this TO me, but I have been nervous to pass it to them unknowingly. I have to go to the grocery store (even if as little as possible). My husband still must leave for work. 100% quarantine isn't possible at this time. So I worry. We are still learning about this everyday. I have senior cats. One is advanced ckd, and needs fluids everyday. My other cats have other medical issues that require medication. Point being, I handle things that are going into their mouths and even breaking the skin on a regular basis. Even if that doesn't mean anything, their health conditions make me wonder if they are able to get this – does that mean they are at higher risk of dying.
Disclaimer: I would never abandon them due to this, as I have heard many people have been doing. This would never cross my mind. Also, I want to believe they are not at risk of catching this, if either one of us does. But I still do worry anyway. If I got sick – would I be well enough to continue her fluid therapy. This is of course on top of all the other worries. For friends and family. Job and home security. We just are at the mercy of what news will show up every day. 😓

  7. Hi doctor. Hope you and your family will be fine after some period. I am in Delhi, India and we need to take our dog for walk twice in a day as it won't poop without a walk outside. Is it safe during a lock down.

  8. Can pets carry the virus on their fur? I have a friend who suffers from social anxiety and doesn't leave his home except when absolutely necessary. He has been in social isolation since before our country had their first covid-19 positive patient. The only visitor he had was the neighbours cat. He recently tested positive for covid-19. The neighbour also tested positive. Just to be sure I have my cats and dog indoors but is it possible that a pet could carry the virus on their fur?

  9. I have a question about my little 9.5 lb shorkie…she is almost 12 years old. For awhile now she has been coughing a really beep cough especially after she drinks. I have taken her to the vet twice now with a recording of her coughing…they have never looked in her throat but they say it's what they call "old dog desease" which means her trachea is collapsing…do you know anything that might help her. Shes all I have and I sure dont want to lose her. Thanks Linda

  10. I’m in 14-day mandated quarantine because of travel, too. When I read that I might have to stay away from my cat, I almost flipped. The CDC and my own doctor’s quarantine guidelines said to stay away from them. Thank goodness I read the latest research that they can’t get or give it to humans.
BUT it makes sense that, if the virus can remain in fabric, it can almost certainly remain in fur. So if someone is sick, pets should probably not be able to move freely from them to family members who are not sick.

  11. God bless you, we will be praying for you!. Your the best vet, I always come to you 1st for advice, my hubby is a groomer we have a pet service and I always recommend your videos to our clients and use your suggestions on our dogs and everything we have tried and recommended to others has worked out every time. Thanks for being an awesome vet! Please stay safe.

  12. I have the absolute respect for you. That being said I spend 24/7 with my dog's. In October of 2019 my granddaughter brought up her then 6 month old puppy. She had this horrendous cough. Well it proceeded to spread to my dog's one by one,and yes I became sick with a awful cough, headache, and a fever. I was treating the symptoms. I also had to use both my inhalers, and my nebulizer. And sleep apnea machine with oxygen. This went on for awhile. Then my granddaughter came u up but a with the same cough and fever(18). Anyway everyone was coughing. I think it went around the dog's 3 times.

  13. What a relief, thanks so much Dr. Andrew. I'm just a bit worried 'cause there's a new report that a cat in Belgium tested positive for Covid 19. I hope the virus doesn't affect pets even if they have it.
