  1. After many visits to the vet, we tried everything for my dogs skin issues. Nothing prescribed worked, nothing over the counter worked. It was a horrible time for my lab/shepherd mix. I decided to go ahead with the expense of getting to the root of her issues, instead of treating them. We had her tested for environmental allergies. While waiting for the lab results, I decided to stop all meds and medicated shampoos and creams since nothing was giving her relief. I had many people advise me to try Benadryl. I hate the way that stuff makes me feel, so I wasn't too keen on giving it to my baby. I was so distraught about it, but gave in. I gave her 2 in the morning, and 2 at night. Within three days, her itching and licking completely stopped! Her skin under her armpits and belly had turned black. She was on an antibiotic and nothing else. I was a non believer in the Benadryl. I can't say enough, how wrong I was. Her lab results came back and out of 50 things tested, she is allergic to 22 of them😞 So allergy shots are next so maybe one day she can be off the Benadryl. I'm a believer.

  2. Oh thank goodness I found this, I've been going nuts trying to figure this out! My girl got so bad that she lost most of her fur from her chest and down. Here I thought it was her food, but she did have some fleas, most definitely a flea allergy. Because we came down from Prince George where we never encountered fleas. She went nuts !!

  3. Last night filled tub and let cool to just warm ( i only have hot that works) soaped up let stand 10 minutes and literally used a large pan and rised my dog standing on the bath room floor on towels as best i coukd then put her in the clean water to rinse the rest ….because i cannot rinse with running water. Its hot! Put the towels and a large cotton rug in washer and now my bathroom floor is squeeky clean. I was a sweaty mess! 69 and shes a 9 month old german shepherd big and excitable…..

  4. I have been doing similar washes focusing on yeast and a staph infection for weeks now. It’s better but still active? I’m on top of him . He is a 3 yr old small mini poodle. I do groom him myself. Could diet be restricted at this point? Cut all carbs/ sugar? I hate to put him on pills if I can help him holistically and actually find a long term solution.

  5. My dog had clumps of fur & skin falling out this summer…at first it looked like just dandruff-like white flakes then it turned to bumpy dark & hardened clumps of skin. Bald spots on his left side started appearing. After many vet visits and then specialist visits, he was diagnosed with Cushing disease. He’s on meds for it but is doing worse everyday. He’s lost 10 lbs and he has lost muscle mass and is skinny and his ribs are showing, even tho he is eating a decent amount of food. Patches of hair loss now cover his body, with black, hardened and sometimes bloody chunks of very hard skin falling off. Can you talk a little about Cushings Disease and what else I can do to keep some weight on him? He is an 8 y/o Beagle-Bulldog mix and we fear that soon we will have to put him down since he’s so listless and has trouble even getting up and down steps now… or even wanting to go out to pee or poop lately. What else can we do to give him quality of life? Thank you.

  6. QUESTIONS! how long/often do you use this remedy? Will this cure it? What causes this infection and how can it be prevented?
My dog is really struggling. She does have several scabs and consistently itchy. She truly guards her back area and turns her head like the dog in the video as if it hurts her or something. Any advice on the questions above is appreciated 🙂

  7. Just found this while searching for.what is causing my new Gr. Pyrenees rescue to lose his hair & skin breakout. Vet said bacterial infection & gave cortisone shot & antibiotics. Still not better. Have to try & bathe him. He freaks out when confronted with water. Wish me luck

  8. You need a hose brother…thank you for this info, a lot of people love to have a dog but just cannot afford all the vet bills so they end up getting rid of their pet, which is cruel to the dog…so every bit of info helps..🙋🇨🇦👍💖

  11. I have an English Bulldog that has had some of these, but she now has a hairless really red with blisters under her armpit. She lays all the time with this leg under her. On the front of the same leg she has a quarter size spot that is also red and haieless, but no blisters. She has had this over a year now. Took her to the vet and the vet said bulldogs have a skin issues. Never gave me anything for it. Any ideas what it could be and what can I do for her?

  12. My dog vet said my pet has yeast infection on his back he prescribed meds and a sauve to put on it. It goes away but comes back. He has open red hair loss patches on his back. Vet not helpful I tried different food for my dog.

  13. Dr. Jones, my indoor 3 furries have been really scratching. Their fur felt greasy and kinda waxy. They had a strong doggie odor. I took them in to see their doctor and he prescribed a $40, 16 oz, 4% chlorhexidine shampoo, to be used twice a week for 3 weeks. I have 3 dogs and went through 3 bottles of this stuff. The only things that happened my poor already miserable dogs even more stressed due to so much bathing. Plus my wallet suddenly had a weight loss of $120 plus 4.5% sale tax here in Hawaii USA. Two days ago my poor dogs began crying out in their frantic efforts to relieve the intense itching.
I have watched your videos about itchy dogs and took a chance, mixing up my own solution of 1:1 of 91% rubbing alcohol and clean non-chlorinated water totaling 1-1/1/2 cups of solution. 0.5 part lemon juice, 1/2 tsp of neem oil and 8-10 drops of pure lavender oil.
I poured this solution into it a fine mist spray bottle and misted their fur down to the skin. I rubbed it in with my fingers, leaving it on for 3 minutes. Using white paper towels to dry them off. The towels were left with a yellowish residue. I re-misted with the solution and immediately redried them.
Their coats felt and smelled better. They stopped scratching after getting toweled off. The treatment lasted 20 hours. The scratching started again, although it was nowhere near as frequent or intense as to prior to the first treatment. I did a second treatment. The results lasted a full 28 hours. It is 4:30 in the morning and they got a 3rd treatment around 12:30 Am. Rather than scratching, they are SNORING!! as should I be.

  14. I used a plastic water bottle that has a spout that opens and closes. That allows me to direct the soap in all areas as well as the areas that need attention. I also added some Sovereign Silver to the mixture because some of my dogs spots are raw.. I also added some aloe vera juice to help with the skin irritation.. seems to be working great. I need to bathe my dog a couple times a week since her skin infection is severe in some areas.

  15. I’ve got a (just-turned) 2-year-old Dobermann bitch who really needs a good soak and scrub, but she doesn’t like water, and especially not the bath. Even though I live in Australia, do you want to come and bath her for me? 😉 xxxoooxxx ❤️

  16. I❤️💜this video, seeing u mix up the nat'l ingredients for the skin condition, & then giving patient, awesome Angus his bath treatment. 18. Why not use a good medicated shampoo designed for such skin infections … ? … It usually clears it right up in my dogs … If they scratch a lot I use Benadryl for a day or two …

  19. Great video Dr Jones! My Shih Tzu is now on Lasix & Enalapril for heart disease. How much do these meds affect s dog's skin & coat? She is 13 this month and has a stinky and oily coat; constantly biting, scratching and chewing herself!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  20. Suggestion for the reaction between the soap and the apple cider vinegar. Soap is alkaline and vinegar is acidic. Combined, they neutralize each other. Vinegar reverts the soap to its original oils. Soap cancels vinegar's ability to cut through scum. Instead we use a weak apple cider vinegar rinse (water + vinegar) that we prep beforehand and pour over our dogs after the water rinse. It removes any soap buildup and makes their fur soft and manageable on top of the other benefits. I do that with my hair too after shampooing! I am a soapmaker who has been at it for over 10 years.

  21. This is just awesome! I've been looking for a homemade dog shampoo recipe for my Lhasa girl. She's pretty itchy and keeps biting herself sore. The vet suggested an oatmeal shampoo and I've bought already, but just read that it isn't good for yeast/fungal infection. I'd rather use a homemade product to help her heal. Also, do you have a video on diet for yeast/fungal infection?
