  1. OMG yesterday my 8 year old Mastiff dog was diagnosed with heart disease. We feed him no grain dog food, Blue. In a few days he gradually lost strength in his hind leg the all four. The hospital could not do anything and suggested him to see a cardiologist for a pace maker. However, his pulse was so low they gave us no hope he will be able to make it through the night. They suggested to put him down. We did. I am sorry I did not know this ahead of time. Dr Jones do you think he could have survive???

  2. So my dog had a corn allergy and since many dog foods are mostly corn I started feeding her grain free food….about a year or two of grain free eating she started just keeling over. Especially after getting excited. Vet diagnosed her with CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE!! Do you think there is a link?

  3. Interesting that this vid predates the actual FDA report, which was itself unable to establish foolproof links between DCM and grain-free. Right now, the only theory science supports is that which says that DCM is more connected to breed disposition and genetics. Well, at least your video is fair and not promoting panic; we do need to curb taurine deficiency in our dogs. Let’s just not be too quick to condemn grain-free in general, as there are claims being made that the FDA’s study may just be an elaborate hoax to ruin grain-inclusive food manufacturers’ competition. https://medium.com/@danielschulof_18279/bad-science-and-big-business-are-behind-the-biggest-pet-food-story-in-a-decade-5cdafae7be77

  4. What are your opinions on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin? I’m so confused on what to feed my dog after this all and I just want what’s best for her and what I can afford.

  5. It's not it's grain free diets it's BEG diets. Boutique, Exotic, Grain Free diets. Dogs that have been fed home cooked and RAW diets have been diagnosed as well. Please please please do your research. You are forgetting potatoes in the diet as well. Supplementing taurine may not help! There is an entire Facebook group devoted to this. The group is science based with vets who have done the research and are knowledgeable. Dogs have been diagnosed with normal levels of taurine.

  6. What food/diet would you recommend owners to be feeding their dogs?
I know a raw diet has been very popular but I’m not sure if there are studies to support the long term effects

  7. I compete my beagles and when I switch to grain free they lost their dog power I like corn in the food I don't care what anybody says they run harder for Longer and they recover quite well.

  8. In Australia I've found Stay Loyal kibble. It's made in Australia and ingredients are sourced locally. Hopefully I'm doing the right thing by feeding my chihuahua this food. She loves it!!

  9. You need to do some investigation you can do it with YouTube and you will find my information I'm telling you is true. Dogs are allergic to Soy it's toxic to them. all dry dog foods have soybean oil. Dogs were designed to eat raw meat only. The pet food companies purchase the lowest quality of meat and cook it towards a brown mush p a s t e which eliminates all the nutrients from the low quality meat. Then the pet food company adds nutrients to make it look like the food is healthy. The problem is dogs cannot eat soy it is poisonous to them. You must purchase a dog food without soy. Dogs were designed to eat raw meat. Again soybean oil is poisonous to dogs. And it is in nearly every dry dog food. I'm sure if you go look in your Chantry in your look at the label on your dog food you will see soybean oil. If you had a dog and is not live to be at least 12. It is because of the soybean oil is kept him in toxic state there entire life

  10. Every single thing I've ever watched or read about dog food contradicts each other. Just go with your gut instinct and stop listening to people with vested interests in what you feed your dog. I think a dog's stool quality and their coat are good indicators of health. I have a Glen of imaal terrier who has colitis and I've tried everything from raw to home cooked to kibble and the only food that has worked is royal canin sensitivity. Now you'll get people telling you that it's muck and crap and all sorts, but what would you do? Feed her the food that stops her shitting blood or the food that the fanatics tell me? It's pretty obvious to me.

  11. Dump all commercially prepared dog food! I just feed my two boxer girls half a boiled chicken with brown rice and add blended berries with kale, carrots, and an apple with it. They love it and look younger than their age and stay healthier. Plus you know that you are feeding them.

  12. When someone says the FDA published a report, I take that as a cue to stop listening.. and so should we all.

The person who wrote it probably works for Purina. Well I wouldn't be surprised anyway.

  13. I wonder if this could possibly be from the kcals/amount fed as opposed to the boutique food ingredients. I know quite a few dog owners who use how little food they feed on their grain free diets as a selling point to offset the high purchase cost. They reason the kibble is more nutrient dense, high kcal, so I would save money in the long run by feeding less. Which has led me into frequent discussions regarding the dangers of dogs not having enough food in their stomach.

Regardless of how much nutrition is in there, just like humans, an animal needs to have a certain amount of food to stave off hunger. Chronic hunger, never mind if the daily nutritional needs are being met, will lead to the same hormonal issues in dogs that plague people with eating disorders. For instance, anorexics will reach a point where their lack of eating causes an appearance of weight gain. It's really chronic low thyroid causing bloating. I have seen dogs on "BEG" diets who are overweight – from underfeeding. The root cause is hypothyroidism caused by chronic hunger.

Anorexics most frequently die of heart issues. Either potassium related, or those that are directly caused by low thyroid, as it is the thyroid which controls the heart's rhythm. Underfeed a dog every day of its life on a diet that has been thrown together to please chronic ingredient list readers, and what do you expect is going to happen? The "BEG" diets, I suspect, are fairly low in bioavailability. We simply don't know, as no food trials are ever conducted with those brands. All I know is that my dogs are still going strong at 14+, outliving parents, siblings, etc. with no more incidence of cancer on foods like Alpo (dry) and Kibbles N Bits. I am frequently advised against feeding those. But I had an epidemic of cancer and dogs dying before they hit double digits on raw and high protein BEG diets. I'll stick to the low protein grocery store food, thank you very much.

  14. What hasn't been made clear is that grain free kibble although it may contain pea and lentil protein is often supplied with a good quality meat protein source of taurine ie turkey or chicken as well. So is there a grain free kibble only using pea & lentil as its protein source causing the problem?

  15. Beef and chicken for mine always. All dog food garbage. . ALL. . . . . . . . if you go all meat and certain veggies and fruit ask vet for supplements to make sure your baby getting all the nutrients they need. . our families babies live between 12-15 years. . .
    Good luck god bless. .
