  3. Oh wow, this was very informative.. So if my cat is on kibble, get her off.. she’s a very old cat 15, and whenever I put her on wet alone she vomits 🙁 I also have them using a wood chip litter, is that ok? What about diffusing essential oils in the house? Is that a no no? My one cat loves the smell of mint, my others not so much.. trust the cats to be the most confusing to cater to lololol

  4. My cat was diagnosed with asthma this past week. She has heavy breathing that can be seen with her abdomen movement. She also has grunting/wheezing sounds when breathing. I initially took her to vet because she i noticed she began loosing weight. She was a 18 pound cat at the first of the year and she is down to 11.8 pounds now. Doctor prescribed her liquid prednisone to follow that up with getting an Aerokat inhaler. Haven't really noticed any difference since she has been on the prednisone, so i will be contacting vet again Monday about that. My question also is that she doesn't have any coughing at all. Could they have asthma without the cough? The did an xray on her when she was diagnosed. Also, is there a connection between her asmtha and weight loss? Thanks, and I plan on trying you advice and tips. I enjoy your videos.

  5. Should I get honey made especially for cats and dogs or is wild honey safe by wild honey I meant organic especially anti bacterial made honey? Thanks for your informations its really really helpful

  6. Our baby Maine coon we were given by a friends family friend, seems to have this. First the owners lied to our friends moth that the cat was 2/3months old, when we got him he was only 3/4weeks!!! We brought him to our vet right away because his nose and chin seemed infected. He’s 8months now and we still clean his face, groom and clean his ears and eyes regularly. He has been to the vet 2times and shots and such. Now we notice he still wheezes and gets nose crudités but his face is a lot better. He has now had 2 coughing attacks and it breaks my heart. Bringing him back to the vet and will update.

  7. HELP! I adopted a new kitty just a few months ago, and of course was lied to about her bring perfectly healthy. I noticed right away that she has these coughing spells several times a day, usually when she first wakes up, sometimes after running around too long. It's more like she's trying to cough up a hairball for 20-60 seconds. I just noticed today that she was breathing much faster than she should have been, given she was laying down half asleep.
I would have rushed her to the vet immediately when I got her, had it not been for a few obstacles & concerns:
    1. When I transferred her here & since tried twice to get her back in a carrier, she literally FLIPS OUT & starts panting, kicking, puking, howling like a banshee, and generally sending me into a panic attack along with her. I am extremely worried her already labored breathing will become life-threatening when stressed.
    2. Funds. I live on disability & am never able to come up with more than $50 a month for anything, much less however much all those tests would cost. It's impossible for people like me (millennial disabled for 24yrs) to have any kind of credit cards, including the pets one.

So I came to YT hoping to find a DIY at home remedy or 2 I could try, at least to ease her struggles for now. Please help with any suggestions! 💕🙏😿🐾

  8. Thanks for this info. I noticed my cat is starting coughing a lot and I suspect is asthma, I don't wanna give her steroids because one of my cats die from diabetes last year and she was allergic and treated with steroids in the past so, I'm trying the natural way before taking another step.

  9. My cat was diagnosed with Diabetes and hyperthyroidism about 2 1/2 years ago and then later asthma was told to give Zyrtec one tab 5 mg once a day of of course take blood sugar I have gotten his blood sugar under control two times then came the pandemic ugh ! About 2 wks ago I took him back again for blood work and a fructosimine added on. I was a vet tech for years ,so I do understand alot of things. I have a different vet the original vet left the practice when blood work came back I was told to increase the methimazole from 1 1/2 a day to 2 a day .and 2 Zyrtec a day one of my questions to you is shall I give him the 2 Zyrtec
In the morning when I give him his first dose of methimazole . He is coughing alot now more than before I do understand as the Doc told me allergies for everyone is bad this year having a tough time getting through to her , should I give the Zyrtec 2 pills in morning and could you recommend some home remedies or should I worry more ugh .I'm due for more blood and recheck in Middle of October .

  10. Doctor, will these things help with congestion? My 7 year old cat was diagnosed with asthma last week. She's on Prednisolone 5 mg tablet once daily and I give her Chorpheniramine Maleate 4 mg tablet daily. But I can still hear some congestion. I just started her on grain free food. Thank you so much.

  11. Hello Dr. Jones, appreciate you and your animal advocacy and education outreach. Regarding EFA's, my cat's hair on her head falls out when she eats fish on a regular basis, so would it be wise to assume that she is allergic and therefore should avoid fish oil as well?

In researching EFA's for cats, found this good article. But wanted to ask you, are the EFA's in ground flax, pumpkin, sunflower and hemp powder equally beneficial to the oils of the same plants if freshly ground (maybe better in weekly batches)? I tried giving my cat honey. She puked up 4 gigantic hair balls. Wow this should definitely be recommended for hair balls over petroleum based jelly!!! Hairballs isn't the overall problem, I think she has asthma, but it was shocking to see that and it's good to get them out of her. So give cats curcumin with our without ground pepper? How do you administer it at home? I tried turmeric powder and she won't eat anything with it in it. Even in micro-doses. What about tea or tincture? And how would you calculate dosage? May have to give it to her in a syringe though. Also what are your thoughts about ginger for cats? Thank you

  12. Or you could use an inhaler with a spacer to give them actual medicine in their lungs where it's needed or treat systemically with prednisolone to get under control, and not F around with whether your cat can breathe.

  13. Thank you for sharing. Looking at additional ways to help control my cat's asthma. He gets a high dose of med and puffer twice a day and he is still wheezing a lot. Will try your suggestions and hope it will help bring inflammation down so he isn't so uncomfortable.

  14. I think my cats are allergic to seafood, what other omegas would you recommend? also, they were diagnosed with asthma but i think it’s due to an allergy, is this possible? i tried giving them the inhaler but one started breathing weird, not sure if that’s the right move…

  15. Just had to come back and leave a comment to say Thank You!!!!!!!! Watched your video about a year ago. After visiting multiple vets, countless tests, steroids, inhalers etc I followed your advice and eliminated carbs (dry food) from my cats diet. I only give her complete wet food meals now. I also changed her cat litter. I thought it was a good quality one but after researching it I found it was not. She had only 1 attack in the last year, and a very mild one. I think she got to my other cats dry food… So thank you again for the advice.

  16. Thank you! My cat has been coughing and the vet thinks she has asthma. I tried to give her the pills he gave her and she won't take them. Putting them in her mouth is impossible, she just shreds me to pieces and runs off. I've broke them in tiny pieces and tried hiding them in her wet food, and she pushes them aside with her nose and continues eating. I've softened the pills in warm chicken broth and she just ignores it. I've put them in greenies treats and she wants nothing to do with them. I've mixed with her regular treats and she finds it. She knows something is different and is too smart and notices and won't touch them. I've called to vet back and begged for suggestions but they just the say the same things. I want to say to the vet that cats are not dogs and not so eager to eat everything. And here she is, and just continues to cough.

But this has given me some hope. I'm going to try honey right away as that's what I have on hand and can't get to the store soon. Later I will try the other suggestions, like the fish oil too which is more natural for cats, and hopefully will be drawn to. In the mean time I'm switching her over to newspaper cat liter, to reduce dust in her liter. Thankfully no one smokes around her or uses heavy chemicals, etc… house is not too dusty either.

  17. This video has given me renewed hope. My has asthma and has been on prednisolone for a while, I'm not too keen on pumping him with steroids. We also got an inhaler recently. I a haven't seen much improvement, I've been scouring the depths of the internet to find some natural ways to help my little guy.

  18. Recently 1male cat has decided to stay at our home and Has coughing after some time so we took him to the vet . She said its Common flu
And gave us Honitus cough syrup for human. Lol I dunno what to do. And No facilities for xray or test so😭

  19. Hi Dr.
I have two cats, the mother is about 13 years old. Not too long ago she started coughing and seems to be progresing every day 😭😭 she gets so hysterical if taken to vet. what's best to do ? She stresses out if taken out

  20. Toxic mold exposure? Any videos on this? Both cats upper respiratory.

Prednisolone instead of prednisone. Which is best and less dangerous? Cat had an attack with this pandemic vets are not readily available.

  21. Thank you for sharing the tips. May I ask if Manuka honey is any good for cats? Do you think it is better or worse? If my kitty’s cough is not an asthma, can I still offer him honey in general? Thank you again.

  22. Would salmon oil do the job too? Also, I'm thinking a diffuser might be helpful…what do you think? Which essential oils would be best? And lastly, I tried a couple of time to subscribe to your newsletter and download your manual but it just won't work 🤷🏻 what am I doing wrong? Greetings from Berlin

  23. Hi ! Writing this everywhere to help someone maybe: My two cats from different litters started to have asthma randomly and it took me a year to figure out why. I first thought I was unlucky and it was maybe a cleaning product I was using or the dust from the litter and I started to try to change everything in my home, even their food because I thought it could be an allergy. After all this time, I bought a second humidifier because it was still very dry where I lived and I thought the cause could be the dryness. I noticed it was getting worse and after a lot of research (so hard to find info about this), I concluded that it was caused from the hard water in the humidifiers! It creates a white floating dust that animals and children are particularly sensitive to when breathing. When I completely stoped using the humidifiers, the asthma of my cats stopped completely. I hope it helps somebody who is as desperate as I was to find why their cat is having non genetic asthma.
